No, *this* place is the ghetto

I have to disagree with a review of the Jefferson at Van Dorn apartments, where the reviewer claims that JaVD is the ghetto. Sorry, but the Reserve at Eisenhower is *truly* the ghetto. Over the last year, the number of trashy, low-class, sometimes bordering on homeless-looking people who have taken up residence here has climbed. I can only assume that the management has some sort of public housing arrangement with the city where they receive a subsidy for each low income renter they lease to. Either that, or they're completely throwing any income requirements out the window in order to fill apartments, no matter what the long term affects turn out to be.
These trashy, dirty looking people are ones that you would not feel safe around. And their impact to the community has already been felt. Shortly after noticing an increase in the numbers of low class renters, the 24-hour business center was changed so that access was only available during office business hours. The reason' Because equipment in the business center was vandalized. Now, this is an area that only residents can get into, of course. And any guesses as to who was sitting in the business center using the computers any time I (or others paying attention) would go by' Well, it wasn't a clean-cut guy in wingtips and a three piece suit that looked like he worked at a bank. It was the ghetto imports, of course. They'd already done something to trash the area which had an impact on anyone that might want to use it.
The low class residents are in such abundance now, I can only assume that any of the normal residents who have leases coming up for renewal are abandoning in droves. It won't be long before everything about the property (building interiors, grounds, parking areas, etc.) just start looking trashed, I'm sure.
The tremendous problems with the horribly poor construction (water leaks, flooding, paper-thin walls, noise, no insulation whatsoever, etc.) and lame maintenance have been documented by tons of other reviewers. All those reviewers are dead-on, of course. But just in case you needed one more reason not to consider this place, this ghetto aspect is it. Save yourself some time and move right into public housing. You'll get the same atmosphere and level of safety, but you'll probably save yourself $1000 per month.
