Look Out for Various Pests!

Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2009
Rose Hill is in a very nice location and the elementary school and surrounding facilities are wonderful as well. My issue with Rose Hill Apartments has been the contant invasion of pests beginning with spiders in my first year. I have an apartment on the second level which is the highest level in the building and my 1st year was scary when Spring arose. My 8 year old had been bitten by a spider and he had a nasty bump from it and I found that afterwards, I was constantly finding gigantic spiders roaming through my home while there, away from home and during my sleep. There were also many tiny spiders that matched the color of the carpet everywhere, I couldn't figure where they were coming from. When I called for pest control to come, the leasing agents told me that I had to wait until Friday and it was the middle of the week and I had been run out of my home. After various conversations taking place between myself, my mom (I was staying with her in the mean-time), the leasing agents, property management and pest control... finally someone came out, of course this is after It was suggested that maybe I brought them into the house or my son probably has bed bugs and so therefore that was the cause of the bite my son had gotten on his hand. Pest control said that they saw nothing and put down sticky traps. He didn't bother to look around extensively or get down on the floor to make sure of areas of entry. He said that it may be attic spiders. I wound up bombing my apartment and have been doing so every year, sometimes twice a year and each time I wind up seeing a new spider species. Stink bugs get into the window seals easily or however they get in, they were plenty but the least of my problems. Upon my lease ending, I found that I had mice in my apartment in the middle of the night after awakening around midnight from putting my child to sleep. I packed and left for my mom's house yet again. The next day was much like the next day with the spider situation. The leasing agents tried to get me to wait for Friday when the pest control is scheduled to come instead of acting immediatly without constant verbal pushing. The pest control came and found 2 holes in my utility closet and laid down sticky and snap traps. He didn't look beyond that closet, kitchen and bathroom. For 1 week I stayed out of my home and each day I came to straigten up and look for other holes. Maintainance came sealed two holes that were found in my closet but I found 4 other mice entries on my own and two included a huge hole in the corner of my son's room at the foot of his bed and the area around it was covered in mouse hair. This hole ran down into the floor. NASTY!
The other major hole was behind my refridgerater. The electrical socket behind the refridge did not have an outside casing on it. What is sad about this scenario is while I been living at Rose Hill, my refridge broke down and they placed in a new one, the the person who put in the new refridge, saw the huge socket hole in my wall and never bothered to put a standard casing around it before plugging in my new refridge. My main complaint about Rose Hill is that when you have these pest problems, the leasing agents, property mgmt. and pest control will try and down play the seriousness of the issue and tell you that you don't have some kind of infestation when you do and it's not your imagination. They will also tell you how long they've lived at Rose Hill and they've had no problems. They have said to me with their mouths that I'm not the cause of the problem, but the suggestions that were given to me says that, I am the one who caused the issue. Pest control doens't have a good habit of looking for the issue well and when the annual pest control inspections are taking place in everyone's apartment, the gentleman will come in, walk in the kitchen, walk in the bathroom, walk in the utility closet and leave. He doesn't put down any pest repellant or no such thing. I wonder what is the point of having him come. Rose Hill isn't the worst place you can live and I'm sure there are others that have no problems at all, but if you choose to sign that lease be sure to thoroughly check your apartment for huge or small open spaces where the pests can enter in. And although you may not see anything upon arrival, please always keep your eye open for areas in your unit that maybe opening up later.
