I lived at the Rose Hill Apt. for one extremely long year. If I knew then, what I know now, I would never have resided here. I can honestly say that I never would write a review, but I would be happy knowing that I could possibly prevent someone from making the same mistake I did.
I decided on Rose Hill Apts. for several reasons. First, the apt. seemed to have all of the amenities I wanted and I felt it was located in a good area of Alexandria. I moved from the West Coast and was pressed for time when I came here to find a home.
I contacted Rose Hill and made arrangements to move in. At that time, I was told that I would receive their special at the time which was one month free rent. I never received the lease agreement, so I again contacted RH and was told that they "forgot" and that "it was going out in the mail today." I was also told that I wouldn't be receiving their monthly special that I had ALREADY been promised because it wasn't within their 60 day policy. We fought and I finally won! After all, I never would have known about the "special" if they hadn't told me! Other things that have occurred in my apt. while I lived there are:

1. Back windshield shattered in parking lot...manager did nothing...suprise, suprise.

2. Air conditioner broke last Aug. --Took one week to get it fixed and I was told by former maintenance supervisor that I would possibly have to pay for it because it had to be something I've done even though I had only lived there two weeks!

3. Water would not shut off in bathroom early on a Sat. morning. Called emergency maint. at 7am. and was told he'd be there in a 1/2 hour. I told him I had a flight to catch at 10am and to please hurry. He arrived at 9:30am. (I had also called his home # back to see where we was at 9am. and was told by his family that he had just left. When I confronted him, he said traffic was bad...I called his bluff...funny how two days later and the same night that I came home after ordeal my windshield was shattered!) I had to finally leave while he was still working and asked him to make sure to leave that bedroom doors open like they were when he arrived. Two nights later, I came home to my poor cat being locked in the bedroom w/ out food, water, or a litterbox. Nice, huh' Oh, and I did miss my flight! Thanks again, Rose Hill!

4. Smoke alarm always going off. Tried new batteries several times before alerting maint. staff. I let them know on the request form that I needed a NEW one because it was not the batteries, it was faulty. Three days later, I arrive home...I can hear a faint beeping from the parking lot and all I can think of is...that better not be my apt. Sure enough, the closer you get the noise becomes ear-piercing! I have a note under my door that reads in...."we put new batteries in your smoke alarm!" The real kicker is that my neighbor (a leasing consultant for RH) says she heard the noise on her lunch house and "wondered" what was going on. I didn't arrive home until 6pm. and the maint. request was timed at 11a., so for roughly 7hrs. my smoke alarm blared and no one did a friggin' thing! Also, my poor cat was so tramatized that he puked the whole night and I ended up having to take him to the vet...yet another bill I was forced to pay for due to RH!! YEAH!

5. We vacated our apt. and scheuled a move-out inspection which had to take work off for. (They only do it 9am-5pm M-F) Was told we would be charged for blinds (cat!) and that they were $15.00 ea. So for three windows, one would expect to pay roughly $45.00. It was definitely a wake-up call to receive a bill for $90.00 for blinds and $45.00 carpet stains. I fully realize that the blinds may cost this much, but I also know as working w/ the public that you NEVER say a price if you don't have a clue about what you are talking about...seems to be a common theme among those employed at Rose Hill though. Also, we received this lovely bill the day AFTER it was due! Again, had to take time off work to drive over there since mailing would have made it later than it already was.
All in all, I can't say much in a positive light for Rose Hill Apts. I know that I was constantly wondering what I was going to come home to. There are several other circumstances that occurred, however, if I were to write everything, this review would become a novel. After researching, I have now found a lovely apt. and it was in large part to the Apartment Reviews that I read. Most who work for RH would say that those who complain are just disgruntled former residents, but, I just want others who may rent here to know what they are getting into...after all my new home has a 61% rating and it's true...this place is a dream!
