So the person that wrote "Don't Do It" is a little out of hand. I will sum it up from what I have witnessed. First off, I am a female teacher in PG County. I moved here because the area around my workplace is not that safe.
-I have dogs and take them out late at night by myself. There is a security guard that walks around the complex all night long. There is also a security guard for the complex next to South Port. My apartment is near the back so I see both of them at night. I feel safe.
-Yes, you will get your car towed if it does not have the decal for the complex or a temporary pass. This is only after midnight. So far I have only seen the tow truck once and I have been here for a year. And doesn't almost every apartment complex have this too'
-There was a burglary near the entrance of the complex in the winter time. The next day each apartment had a letter about the incident. I asked the security guard that night if I should be worried. He said that he has worked here for years and it is very unusual for this to happen. Nothing has happened since.
-As for the man's car getting broken in to' Well, I suggest to put all of your personal belongings out of eye sight...isn't that a given living in a city'''
-Rats. Yes, there are rats. South Port is by the Backlick Reservoir. Rats are attracted to water. When we first moved in, the rat problem was horrendous. I called the leasing office and told them about the issue. They seemed to ------- off. So, I called Alexandria City pest control. A man came out, did a report, and since then there hasn't been much of a problem. The rats were also only near the trash cans, in which some people do not even throw their trash in the cans. If you don't want rats, clean up after yourself!
-The staff when I first moved in were a little rude. I saw that someone wrote about a lady named Nina. She was fired and so was the lady she worked with. They have new people now and they are more attentive to your maintenance issues.
-The apartments are nice. I have a one bedroom with a den. It is spacious and I feel at home. My neighbors (for the most part) are nice.
-The pool is great for the summer.

I hope this helps some of you. When I looked at the reviews for this place before I moved in I was hesitant. I am now glad I ignored most of the reviews because I am really happy where I live!
