I've lived at southern towers now for about 2 years, and its about what I expected. Cheap rent (Sub $1000 including utlities) for a 1 bedroom.
As an update, our power was out this week from Sunday night to Wednesday night. (Only the stratford building) Management refuses to accept any respondsibility, refuses to compensate residents for hotel rooms, or give a break on rent. The GM said to take it up with our own renters insurance because they aren't going to do anything for the residents.
They put out donuts yesterday for breakfast and sandwiches for dinner as compensation for everyone in the building having to throw away thousands of dollars in food. The Red Cross was in the building for several days feeding the residents while the building was pretty much unliveable. There was no light in the hallways or common areas. I had to use my cellphone backlight to find my front door and climb the stairwells.
While I feel the complex should have reinbursed me for the 1 night I stayed in a hotel room, it should be expected that cheaper properties such as ST will not go out of their way to help a resident.

Besides all that, the good:
*Cheap Rent, free utilities (when they work)
*Right off 395, next to 66
*Lease turns month to month for no additional charge after 1 year.

Neutral:
*Free Visitor Parking, but only 1 pass is available, and the people have to move their cars by the next morning at 10am from guest parking which is far away from the building.

Bad:
*Old building, with old everything. (Elevators, windows, kitchen cabinets, bath/faucets, forced heat/AC)
*Parking can be difficult at night.

Overall, I'd say Southern Towers is OK. If you must live cheaply and live near the city, it will get you by for a year. I wouldn't recommend anyone living here for more than a year.

4 days is absurd. What the hell happened to customer service? I live in the Ashlawn, and twice in 3 weeks our power has gone out for atleast 14 hours. Actually the power is out right now. Has been for 15 hours! Are we REALLY susposed to accept that the management is not responsible?! Are you out of your ------- mind? If only a couple of the buildings lose power when a could rolls by, and the rest of the buildings stay on solid, then the management needs to get with Dominion Power and come up with a plan to resolve this. Also, don't think for a minute that the upper $900's for a 1 bedroom is "cheap". I'm not trying to give the previous poster a hard time, I just think the management could to alot better with the money they make from us renters.
Here's the icing on the cake though... I come down to the 1st floor this morning (Ashlawn), and the elevator doors open. Right in front of me is a sign on a piece of paper taped to the wall with Dominion Power's phone number on it and a note from the management (or possibly front desk person), saying that this outage is not a management issue and we should call Dominion if we want an update on the situation. Once again, I ask you WHAT THE F*CK ARE WE SUSPOSED TO SAY WHEN DOMINION WILL ONLY SPEAK TO THE ACCOUNT HOLDER, I.E; MANAGEMENT?! This is what we are told when we call Dominion. So the next time your dripping with anger because the residents wont leave you alone about the power problem, how about doing something about it rather than trying to push it off on Dominion who isn't responsible for updating residents anyway. YOU ARE!

It is bulls*it. I live in Ashlawn as well for almost a year now. Our power was out twice for about 16 hours or so each time. Someone needs to compensate us. Monecello and Berkley had power throughout the whole storm and thereafter. I used to live in Berkley which was awesome.
Ever since I moved to Ashlawn, I havent been happy at all. There is a massive roach problem that not even pest control can deal with. So we have to fu*king live with them. I hate this place so much.

I've been at the Stratford building for a little over a year. The recent power outages have been horrible and the way management handled them was inexcusable. In the year that I've lived there I've noticed a distinct deterioration of the building as a whole as well as the landlord's responsiveness. The place is beginning to look like a tenement slum and management doesn't seem to care.
