I live in the Berkeley and though I have yet to see a mouse (and lord help him if I do!) the roaches are UNBEARABLE....The effed up thing is that I had specifically asked about roaches BEFORE leasing....and the leasing agent looked me in the eyes and lied saying that roaches, mice, and other pests had NEVER been a problem there. ARE YOU KIDDING ME'! The first time I saw a roach I went to the front desk where they told me they had an exterminator on contract and they came every thursday......why would an exterminator come every week if there was never a pest problem!' When I talked to the leasing office about getting out of my lease due to false information and straight out lying they told me to too bad....I move out in 2 weeks and you couldn't pay me a million dollars to rent there ever!! The kitchen floor is soooo yellow that you scrub your life away and it's still dingy and grimy. The bathroom has mold and the floor is DISGUSTING no matter how hard you clean!!! our AC leaked and caused mold in the pergo flooring and the flooring to RISE up. Walls are so thin that I tripped over a cord and fell into the wall and put a hole in it with my elbow (and I am not a "big" girl). The fire alarm goes off every 2 days usually when you're the most tired or sleeping. My door jams and I have to call maintenence to let me out or be trapped inside. I can't open my windows cuz there's so much paint on the handle and if on a rare occasion I can get it open then I can't shut the damn thing again. The AC/Heater runs with the building so I freeze my ass off cuz they haven't switched it to the heat yet. The hallway carpet is always wet and moldy/musky smelling. The washer and dryer on my floor is so old it takes like 8 bucks to dry one load of clothes so I lug all my clothes on base to the laundromat. I could go on for days.....but enough with the negativity...some good points: location, if you go to night school or work in the metro area you're in the perfect location. Security, it is very safe...well I've thought so but then again I've lived in worse neighborhoods, I've only been afraid there once and that's when I was walking down the hall toward my apt and turned around to see a man behind me (didn't hear him come up the elevator or the staircase, didn't even hear him walking behind me) but the parking lot has cameras, you can't come in or out of a building without being on camera, there's a police substation in the complex (should tell you that crime's a little frequent than norm), oh there are TONS of sex offenders there as well. The 24 hour desk is nice at least at the Berkeley...Miss Paggie's a doll! yet very strict when it comes to people following residents through the locked door, she'll stop them and ask them where they're going so you feel a little safer. The price is good and for a struggling 19 year old making about 27 grand a year and attending night school fulltime it provided a roof over my head. It's a bit disgusting but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do...I wouldnt recommend it but for people that are in a situation like me (low pay, no home, etc...) it provided a less than perfect solution

It not the complex it is who they let move in. When they move in - they bring roaches. I see foreign visitors bring roaches from where they travel from. Roaches hanging our of they rundown suitcases. I see it with my own eye. Seen new tenants move in with roaches coming out of their boxes.
