They're trying to reinforce the buildings because of subsidence. Lots of drilling, gritty dust, and noise. But the infrastructure is failing in so many other ways: . Water, heat/air conditioning, insects and rodents, elevator outages, vandalism, litter, electrical wiring, and poor maintenance. The painters do an awful job!

The quality of tenant declined after 9-11 and the buildings seem to becoming more and more ghetto-oriented. I think they took in a lot of section 8 people. Many of the third world immigrants have a couple of families living in one apartment.

They are regularly cutting down trees, putting up fences, and are not keeping up with landscaping. the pool is not kept as clean as it could be.

There's a terrible problem with birds, especially crows and Canadian Geese.

The security is bad, and people who do not live here roam throughout the buildings - expecially solicitors and delivery people.

The mail delivery is awful and I have had mail sent back to the post office marked, 'unknown' depite living there over 10 years!

I don't know what bldg this person is in, but I've lived in Soutern Towers for over ten years now and am quite happy. You're not going to find a better bargain for the size of the apt.s and the convienient location. I have not had mail problems and there are not people wandering through the bldg. Yes, the property happens to be on the migration path of blackbirds and canadian geese, that's called 'nature.' Not the management company's fault. I believe what they've been doing to the bldg.s is called 'repointing.' It's a good thing, used to maintain the structural integrity. This means thay actually care about the buildings. While your's is being worked on, you need to 'suck it up' for the sake of maintanence. If you owned a place you'd have to go through some rennovations sometime and deal with it. So I most definately DO RECCOMMEND Southern Towers as a place to live. As with any location there will be pro's and con's. If you're terribly unhappy anywhere, make a move.

It's not re-pointing! They are drilling,rivetting, and soldering the beams etc. because of structural problems. Look at all the large cracks in the hallways and in the apartments! I don't think these buildings had a choice in fixing the problem; I think either the city or an engineer forced them. And sucking up is exactly what I have been doing: sucking up all the gritty dust from the drilling etc. The management can do something about the crows and even the geese (although they are protected). Having all these birds around (literally, tens of thousands at night) can pose severe health problems to the children and others who use the park and pool; the droppings are at a dangerous level and I have seen children falling on them and picking them up in their hands. The droppings in the pool are disgusting and I refuse to swim there. You might want to consider the worst case senario vis a vis Avian Flu and West Nile Virus - I have seen many dead birds around. You must be in a state of complete denial! How many times a week do you find menus and ads left at every apartment door by delivery people and others paid to leave this trash; these are not people who should be going around to each floor; if they deliver something, then that should be the only place they go. How many people come into the building when a tenant uses his or her key, and doesn't ring in or stop at the desk? I've had many people knocking at my door thinking I was someone else. What about the roaches and mice? Try going to the front desk to get traps - mostly they'll have run out of them! And the exterminators come once a week to spray the incinerators.

I have lived in Southern Towers Stratford for a little over a year now and other than an Etheopian man stalking me i have never had any problems. Yes they do leave menus on the door but what about the people that do live there and actually use them. You act like it is a huge inconvenience for you to just pick it up and throw it in the trash. Also, in my entire time here i have maybe seen 3 critters (bugs). There are things that you can to to protect your apartment and not have to even worry about management. It doesn't matter where you live. There will always be critters! All you have to do is cover any holes. Tell management about warped boards or whatever. I have had the wall in my bathroom re-drywalled 3 times in the past year but do you see me sitting here whinning? YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! Stop being a bunch of babies and grow up! If you have issues with management, neighbors, apartments, lack of security, tenants, or condition of your apartment move out! I'm sure that no matter where you go you will still find something that you are unhappy with. I have been extremely happy with the management in my building. I even know every employee in my building by their names..... including the maintenance staff. Get off your high horse, worry about yourself, then maybe you could become happy! I recommend Southern Towers to everyone. You just have to treat people the way you want to be treated and maybe you will get what you ask for! And you are being rediculous about "west nile and Avian Flu". Show me one case reported in Virginia and then we will talk. Also, if parents paid attention to their children then maybe they wouldn't pick up poop. I went swimming all summer in the pool behind Stratford and never once saw poop or droppings from any bird in or around the pool.
