Dangerous Street/Area

I want to first say I DON'T live at the Summit, but live in a complex directly across the street. My comments are not about the complex, but the surrounding area.

Reynolds Street itself is pretty sketchy and dangerous: Poorly lit, dark, tree-lined, winding street not really safe for kids or women. Lots of car thefts, car break-ins, and robberies occur along Reynolds at night. This street is NOT a good place to jog, park a car, or walk a dog after the sun goes down.

Right down the street from section 8: Across the street and half a block down lies a section 8/low income housing complex that routinely has large groups of people simply "hanging out" on the sides and back of the complex, evening late into the night. It's not uncommon to ride past this particular low income complex and see large groups of men simply sitting out by the dumpsters guzzling beer. There are plenty of disorderly and poorly behaved children and teens at this complex who wander aimlessly around the street. I've also come past there several times and seen scuffles and altercations.

I live in the complex across the street from the Summit, EOS-21, and regret not knowing I was right down the street from a "rowdy" low income housing spot.

I haven't heard of ANY robberies, thefts, or ANYTHING since I have lived on S. Reynolds. The area is quite lovely, if you stay on the Duke St. end of the street.

check the daily incident reports on the City of Alexandria Police department and you'll find S. Reynolds Street quite often mentioned http://www.alexandriava.gov/police/crime_reports/reporter.p A total of 100 incidences so far this year, the last being on 06/10/07. Also check the sex offender registry, there's plenty for the area. Though none directly on Reynolds Street. I don't really care if they're only 2 streets down... I wish I could post pictures as I could show some pictures of how it is to live with rude neighbors. The Summit does not treat people equally, different rules apply to different people. Free utilities are going to be eliminated in the near future, already the Summit advertises "Free gas for 1 year" for new tenants. The Fire department does use Reynolds Street & Picket street a lot, but you'll learn to live with the noise. The apartments are spacious but do need updating indoors. The equipment in the gym/partyroom is broken, the main areas not kept up (how about tables & chairs for BBQ area, what's with the dirt storage in the BBQ are?) The elevators are still very unreliable. So far there's only one new one and it beeps quite loud on every floor. If all three are going to be that way then I would not want to have one of the apartments close to it as I can still hear it in my apartment and I'm at the end of the hallway! I think the new management is much better than the old one, but again they don't treat all people the same. Beware of month-to-month leases. I'm surprised how many families with children live in this building. Read up on lead based paint ans your paint will crumble in this old house and it is dangerous especially to young children.
