I've been living at The Summit for 3 years and here's what I have to say about recent posts:
Check the daily incident reports on the City of Alexandria Police department and you'll find S. Reynolds Street quite often mentioned http://www.alexandriava.gov/police/crime_reports/reporter.p A total of 100 incidences so far this year, the last being on 06/10/07. Also check the sex offender registry, there's plenty for the area. Though none directly on Reynolds Street. Two streets down doesn't really change the situation. The pictures show our balcony after a nice surprise courtesy of our rude neighbors from above (this happend a couple of times) and my car which parked everday on Reynolds Street when one of the many trees that line the street fell over - the joys of street parking (if you even find a parking spot on Reynolds Street). The Summit does not treat people equally, different rules apply to different people. Free utilities are going to be eliminated in the near future, already the Summit advertises "Free gas for 1 year" for new tenants. The Fire department does use Reynolds Street & Picket street a lot, but you'll learn to live with the noise. The apartments are spacious but do need updating, some renovated apartments are available. The equipment in the gym/partyroom consists of one weight machine that sucks, 2 bicycles (one broken), one treadmill that's always in use and one stepper. The main areas are not kept up (how about tables & chairs for BBQ area, what's with the dirt storage in the BBQ area, the tennis court is one big pot hole and the pool depth - well let's say you cannot drown here) The elevators are still very unreliable. So far there's only one new one and it beeps quite loud on every floor. If all three are going to be that way then I would not want to have one of the apartments close to it as I can still hear it in my apartment and I'm at the end of the hallway! I think the new management is much better than the old one, but again they don't treat all people the same. Beware of month-to-month leases. I'm surprised how many families with children live in this building. Read up on lead based paint: Your paint will crumble from the walls and popcorn ceilings. You have one parking spot assigned, but it will be randomly reassigned and you'll find a nasty note from another resident on your car: Please don't park in my spot. This has happened 3 times so far. The dumpster needed for the renovations is conveniently located to the right side of the garage, which awarded me with a flat tire thanks to nails laying in the entry way. That's all I can think about right now, but lets end on a positive note: The view on higher floors is amazing!

Thank you so much for taking the time to do this write up, and also for qualifying your statements! I'm in search of an apartment, and DEFINITELY will NOT rent here! Thanks again for all!
