People reallt tear this place apart without being objective, so here is my attempt.

The pluses:
There is so much parking. The garage is being repaired right now and there is STILL enough parking to go around and the spaces are HUGE. As someone with an SUV, this is a huge plus. I haven't gotten a single door ding (knock on wood). Visitor parking is adequate.

It is dead silent, unless you want to live as cheply as possible and live on the 395-side. If living in a quiet apartment is important, it is worth checking out here.

The apartments are very large and well laid out.

I have a gorgeous view of all of the monuments on the National Mall.

The shuttle driver Larry brings a smile to my face whenever I'm on the bus.

Minuses:
People comment and say we have rats. Rats' Try mice. Yucky still, I know. But they're just field mice. Hopefully management learned. In spring 07 they didn't lay any traps and that summer, duh, mice everywhere. Of course I wasn't too concerned b/c I'm on the 12th floor so I only got one.

Mold, yup there is mold in the air ducts. It just sucks plain and simple. If you allergic to mold of any kind, don't live here.

Office staff here is very stupid. Not only stupid but they can be jerks. Refuse to speak to anyone named "Basic" he is a scam arist. Luckily their idoicy as always worked in my favor. They wrote my lease ended in March not May so I got out two months early.

There is plenty of parking because there are plenty of empty apartments. When I moved here years ago, there was a waiting list for both apatments and a two-three month wait for an extra parking space. The vistor lot stayed full and people had to park where Copelands used to be. This place had its issue but it was fairly nice. Now with the potholes along with everything else, it is depressing. I will be leaving this place to the Newbies. I will saw that I have seen improvements since John left. I hear that Basic is no longer w/the complex. I hope that is not a rumor!!!!!!!!! What a piece of work he is.

If you live in an unrenovated apartment, you are probably noticing that the amount of heat you are getting in the spring is now inadeqate. They have obviously turned the boiler to low to save on fuel bills. (Although my monthly utility bill went up by 50% recently and stayed there, all because of heating and water, not the electricity.) Renovated apartments should have seperate heating coils in the vents to allow for more heat. Part of the problem with rodents is that all doors are left open. Not just the garage doors. Tenants leave the interior doors to the garage ajar, letting the rodents access to the building. These are fire doors also, and it is a bad idea to leave them wide open.

My husband and I move in December 2007. Our apartment third floor above the garage was terribly infested with rodents. We tirelessly worked to remove them, but too no avail. The ongoing ceiling and pipes coming apart attracted all kinds of bugs, molds, but particularly rodents. We were paying $1775.00 for a two bedroom and two bath. We loved the location, but our environment became a health hazard.

This review is not bad. I too think the apartments are spacious and laid out well. My 1BR clocks in around 950 s.f. which is pretty good. It is a very quiet buidling too - built out of brick and block. My newly renovated unit is quite nice and works well. On the downside, certain management types are not only stupid, they are mean and rude. I was threatened with eviction and a lawsuit because of an accounting error on their end. When the matter was settled, the broad who threatened me with legal action didn't even bother to say 'Sorry 'bout that...' On the maintenance front, it's also pretty bad. I have been waiting since January for a particular issue to be fixed - and am writing this review in mid-April. I used to think staff were mistaken when it came to taking care of maintenance but now I just wonder if they lie to people hoping they'll forget that their apartment needs work. One big bonus - you're allowed to grill on the balcony. This is really rare in DC area apartments so if steak, chicken and shrimp on the grill is your deal, give it a look. Parking is okay but a bit weird now with the renovation underway. They took away my assigned spot - took away everyone's assigned spot, really - and just made parking sort of a free for all. It's a pain in the neck but I have been able to find a spot every time I look for one. Regarding guest parking, that's getting a bit trickier. The lot across the street is now closed to guests and things can get really crowded on the streets. Most days, it's okay but it's getting tighter. The method of billing utilities is, frankly, communistic. Bills are apparently averaged among all residents, so if you waste water and electricity, I share the bill. It appears the bills rise as the number of vacant units increases. Also - you can't deal with the sub-metering company. They refuse to talk with residents and demand instead to speak only with apartment management. Unfortunately, apartment management is pretty indifferent to their customers and treat them like chattle so a lot of issues go unresolved. I have worked with a couple folks on the staff who are very talented and actually care about their customers, but they have not been placed in positions of authority, near as I can tell. I sometimes get the impression they empathize with renters who are fed-up with the bad managers. That's the best I can offer - hope it's helpful. Speaking for myself, I have been at this place for about a year and a half and will probably move when my lease is up. It's really not a horrible place but the people who run it just don't seem to care. The only reason I haven't broken my lease and simply fled is the balcony barbecue feature.

TO ANYONE NOT TOO CONCERNED WITH THE PRESENCE OF FIELD MICE!! Hantavirus - not recognized as a threat till 1993!! This will change the way you perceive the presence of rodents! Hantavirus - google this virus and read about how common it is and it's potentially deadly affects!
