If everyone has such "issues" with this place I think you should take a step back and remember you are renting. Obviously DC is a very expensive place to live and while many people would like to own it is just not a possibility, I completely understand that. However, it is your choice to live here. As many of you have stated, you have lived in several places/cities over the years; then you should be fully aware as renters sometimes you don't have control. While I agree that our security should not be compromised and mold is a serious health issue, if you have that big of a problem with it...leave. There are many things you do not have to worry about living here simply because you are a renter. Insurance, grounds keeping, updating your property, the list goes on...I feel like everyone has really given the Aventine a bad rap. I moved here in the beginning of the summer and was honestly hesitant because of all the horrible reviews, but I could not be happier. My place is beautiful and I have not experienced any problems. Parking in DC is a high commodity. We are not even paying to park! Literally they GAVE us 3 parking passes when we moved in. Parking in this area runs anywhere from $100-$250 a month. While it may not be the "nicest" parking garage(how many parking garages have a warm , cozy feeling to them'' come onn!) and sometimes you have to look for a spot this is all because they ARE making improvements. Since they have opened the right side again (which looks great) there has been ample sport available. Seriously stop being so negative, it would be one thing if you were paying to park.
Since living here, I have made two maintenance requests and while it took them a few days to make improvements, ultimately they were made. There are hundreds of units, give them a break. I can promise you if you start enjoying your place instead of being so angry all the time, you will live a much happier life.

Thank you, I was having the same issue. I loved the apartment but I was affraid to move to the Aventine because of what I have herd about mice, roaches, and utility bills. My current apartment is small, I don't have a washer and dryer and I have to pay for parking. Thank you I will be moving soon to the Aventine soon

I think that people who moved here at the beginning of the summer probably have a different perspective. We have been here much longer and while you rented with the understanding that it would be the way it is now, we were TOLD that we would have assigned parking, 24 hour security and a 24 hour desk. These are things that we signed our lease with the understanding we were going to have. We were also promised that the windows, which were foggy because water was getting in between the panes, would be replaced before we moved in. They were actually replaced 9 months later and at that time the workers stained my carpet all over with big grease stains. I called the same day, but only after calling repeatedly for over a month did they clean the carpet...not surprisingly, they stains didn't come up. I have called all summer about the fact that the air isn't working properly and can't even get a call back. I have repeatedly asked that the property manager call me and she hasn't all summer. I learned from THIS web site that the AC was being replaced and as of now, it isn't even scheduled this month or next. I would think that since I have repeatedly stated that it isn't working they would update me or move us higher on the replacement schedule. Everyone in the office is as nice as they can be when you move in, but don't treat the residents with any respect. We absolutely would have moved, but have tried to stick it out with the hope that it will get better because we don't want to pay all of the deposits associated with moving (we paid A LOT when we moved here that are not refundable), the cost of a truck and movers and the inconvenience of having to move.

I guess you belong to management to say that!

They're replacing the A/C AGAIN????? We lived at Aventine of Alexandria (and Park Center Apts) for 6 years from 2002 to early 2008 and they claimed to have replaced the HVAC chillers 3 times!!! Sure the newly renovated apartments may look nice, but the infrastructure sucks, and management is doing nothing to fix it. The renovations are all cosmetic. We stayed through management change after management change and finally gave up last spring. The location is great, we LOVED Larry, and the apartments were large. I just got tired of fearing for my (and my daughter's) safety and for the poor maintenance of the property. Best wishes to all of you that choose to live here. I hope you do not become ill with all the health problems (mold, bugs, rodents)

Sure it's renting, which is why everyone has such unreal expectations. Management tells people all sorts of lies to trick them into living there. This creates the expectation that it will be nice, when it's not. It's a zoo in that office, well, an abandoned zoo since they can't keep staff for more than 5 minutes and often only have like one person in there. People hate on this place because the management is not dong a good job with it. Not because they are asking for the moon.

Okay - you got THREE parking passes?!! When I moved in, they were adamant that we could only have one and a second one would cost money. Then, when I had a rental car one day, I couldn't even get a temporary day pass to ensure that it wouldn't get towed. Second, it cost me $2000 in moving costs to get here. Moving costs money and when we make a housing move, it is often based upon the information given to us by leasing agents. As many others have stated, my leasing agents lied. I do not have another $2000 lying around to just pick up and move.
