Great Place

While I have heard of some people moving in with issues, they were all taken care of for them. The size is great! I could not imagine living in the tiny apartments that cost more than this. While the hallyways are being painted, those that have yet have peeling wall paper in spots. Its not bad either.
I've been here one month and only have one issue: the fire alarm. It goes off about once a week, sometimes while at work though.
The garage is open with large parking spots.
The leasing office is friendly as are the front desk workers. Neighboors are friendly as well and the community has weekly events for different age groups in the community.
My minor complaint is the pool hours. 12- 8 Tues through Sunday.
However, I live on the 15th floor on the side facing I-395. It is a bit loud with all the windows open during busy hours, but fine to sleep through at night.
As I said, the space is fantastic! Its a great value and I come home thinking how much I love my apartment. That is what you want after all.

Really, because it is 9pm and almost 80 degrees in my apartment. I just opened the window to get cool air which I don't prefer to do because of the soot and noise from 395. I find this to be a huge problem. Last night I woke up at 1:30 sweating like a pig...the electricity was out so the little AC we actually have wasn't even working. There was a notice posted saying it would be out, but it was posted late in the evening, after I had come home. When I came home today I called to ask when the AC would be working and they said it had just been fixed and should cool down shortly. Of course, the leasing office leaves right after that and it isn't working but the front desk can only put in a maintenance request to be followed up on later which doesn't help me sleep tonight. This is the exact same thing that happens about once a week.
Oh, and the fire alarm has gone off 3 times in the past 10 days. It was better for a while, but seems to be having whatever problem was going on before again.

If you placed a deposit on your place good luck getting it back. We repainted, professionally cleaned the place got cleared for a full deposit refund we received the paperwork promptly after moving. The VA law states landlords have 45 days to get you a refund check it took us over 100 days to get ours. The leasing office jerk off's tried to quote us that it takes 45 days then realizing we had moved out nearly 90 days prior adds at the last minute that it's supposed to be 45 business days (our 6 year old tries similar tactics when lying go figure). It took constant hounding with phone calls on our part and ultimately I had to seek the help from the City of Alexandria's housing department. They offer services toward mediation of such disasters and thank god they helped us. First we got a check that some nit wit processed for the amount of our last studebaker bill which was the only deduction amount listed on our paperwork. About 2 weeks later we got another check for a much larger sum and this was the balance as the paper work had shown however even this amount was wrong because they were trying to screw us out of the interest owed to us by law. We were there for several years and experienced the B.S. A/C system every year along with the same B.S. excuses and notices put out later in the evening then we typically get home too! This is common place in that craphole! If you like to be cool and you've already signed your lease hope you don't like moving because you will be wanting out afer 12 months. This may be why they forgot our interest (if you want to give them the benefit of the doubt) they just aren't used to people staying longer than 12 months and the law stipulates you have to stay for longer than 12 to qualify for interest. Our interest was hundreds so it's not like we were barking over 30 or 40 bucks either. Try waiting till the 15th to pay your rent and see what happens! Then they take nearly 4 months to refund your deposit a clear violation of the law! Mean spirited absent minded jerk off's run the place expect treatment accordingly. In other words they'll butter you up good to get you in but then your nothing but a number and if they have their way you will leave in 12 so they don't owe you anything! Thanks for nothing scumbags!

I try to use my windows as much as possible. EVERY TIME i use my air conditioner all i can smell is skanky cigarette smoke. I've complain to maintenace but all they say is that its not possible for smoke to come out, or that there is nothing they can do. I hate coming home here and can't wait to get a new place.

AndrellS,
Your theory about the cool air taking time to move up is BS. I have the same problems as the first responder and I live on the 4th floor. Using that logic I should have had cool air before I returned from work yesterday since they had the electricity on by 5:00 a.m. but as of this morning, I left at 6:00 a.m., a full 25 hours later, it was still 79 degrees in there. Wait until you start paying your utility bill, this place is garbage.

Lol. The fire alarms are annoying, but they fluctuate. I keep my apartment warm- 74 day time and 71 at night. I've never had an issue except when they turn it off. Being so high up, the system that is installed takes time to reach those of us higher up, but when it goes down, we still have cool air for a few hours. Just how this system is. With the power outage, the system will take time to come back and cool us off again- about half a day (or roughly an hour per floor- it must cool them off before the cool air goes up to the next level).
Having the windows open last night (I was awake when the power went off and was able to immediately open windows) my bedroom was 73 degrees. Hot for some, but pleasant for me.
I am sorry it sucks more for you. My mom is the same way- she dies from heat when it is in the 60s! I hope you do not suffer any more, its no fun to not like where you live. Good luck and feel cool!!
I did not pay a deposit. Deposit, application fee, and background check fees were all waved.
ABNGUY: BS? Your apartment is just messed up then. I do HVAC- have a degree dealing it. Yet you call it BS? What are your creditentials?

Seems like one of us here with all the perfect excuses and justifications may work for management or the owners, sure probably does live in one of the historically problem free units.
