I only rented here because they were undernew management, so I didn't pay attention to the former comments that were negative. Most of them are still true, the staff initially appears friendly and concerned, but are only interested in the money. Thats okay, but when maintenance is needed, they rank very poorly. Upon my move in December 2008, the washer did not work properly. Maintenance stated that sometimes the washers don't wring clothes out thourally. In other words, just deal with it. After my husband nagged them for two months, they decided to replace the washer/dryer with one from an unused apartment. Recently we put in a work order to replace a living room window that is double paned and has condensation within the panes. Now that it is summer, we like to open the blinds to let the sun light in and its an eye sore, not to mention the health hazards from the molded moisture that we're exposed to. They will lie about taking care of the problem, and never follow up. It has been a month since we filed the order, and they promised to fix it by June 22, 2009. To date, no show, no call. The reason why I posted this comment is because the last straw for me was, last week I was served an eviction notice for partial rent unpaid from May. June's rent was paid, and they said I owed for May. Due to the unqualified and inexperienced staff, they posted the wrong amount of my rent to their books, but did not notice till June. I had to take time off work to provide a copy of the cancelled check proving my rent was paid in full. Also, prior to that, I used to allow them to draft my acount. Well, after I received an NSF notice frommy bank, I learned they drafted one month's rent twice with days apart. They have cause problems for many in this instance, and if you like being inconvenienced and possibly being wrongfully evicted, then you might enjoy life at The Edgemoore. My lease is not up until December, but my husband and I are already making plans to vacate. They are not very user-friendly when they are not concerned about inconveniencing tenants, nor are they concerned about keeping the property up. The garbage piles up every weekend at the trash sites, and tenants wake up to numerous bags of garbage sitting outside the trash compactor, swarming with flies and maggots. Not sanitary at all. They do not police the tenants that are pet owners, as if not careful, you will step into dog feces on the premises. No place to live if you pay over $1500 per month for rent. Trust me, there are better places to live without the stress.

Technically speaking, I doubt there's much of a health hazard from condensation between panes in a window (you don't say there's mold growing). You're free to ask Ffx county code enforcement to come inspect if you like, but they may laugh at you.
As for *having* to take off work to show a canceled check to someone, that's nonsense. Drop off a copy of the canceled check as time allowed or email them a PDF.
Not sure what you mean about the NSF notice. It would be up to your bank not to allow a double-debit of one check. (If you mean something else, e.g., that you were not keeping track of checks vs. deposits and writing checks thinking you had more in the account than you should, that's on you. Sounds like you need an over-draft protection linked to a savings account though.)
A notice to pay or quit is not an "eviction" as such.
You're free to call the health dept./code enforcement folks about the garbage.
You're free to file a complaint with the Fairfax County landlord-tenant commission, or file a petition in the Ffx County general district court. Also feel free to write a complaint to the actual owner of the property.
I'm afraid $1500 is pretty standard for a lot of decent one-bedrooms these days; any less and you'll have different but equally annoying problems.

I am pleased to say that the resident who wrote the above complaint renewed her lease for another year. I am not saying she did have some legitimate issues, however, they were greatly exaggerated. There was no moisture intrusion from her window, only condensation. This resident also failed to include she received the legal notice because she wrote her check out incorrectly and we could not cash it. We did have a problem with residents not puting their trash in the compactor. However, my staff cleaned up after them every day except for Sundays. There were no rats. I won't comment on the pet feces issue...if you are still reading, I think you get my point. I care deeply about my residents, and welcome them to contact me personally via email for phone.
