When you are living in metropolitan DC, it will be expensive no matter what. The cost only increases when you want a WD in the apartment as well as pets allowed. Looking for all of these amenities in a place that is close to the metro is nearly impossible.
However Jefferson has worked out well for us so far since August 2004. The maintenace always responds in a timely manner, even after hours. I have not had to deal with the leasing staff but they seem friendly.
It is definitely overpriced but for me, having a WD and being so close to 495 and 395 is worthwhile! If you are commuting by car it is ideal. However the metro is not really in walking distance, so if you don't mind the bus than I suppose that works too. Be careful though because the metro costs 2.70 one way in the morning and the bus is an additional dollar. So it could be as much as almost 8 dollars daily. Sometimes it will be cheaper to just pay for parking where you work!
I agree with the other comments conerning noise. Live on the top floor! Thankfully, we managed to get a top floor apartment but our neighbor below has had an issue with our walking. That's the strange thing, it's never the TV like other people said, but the walking!
The noise from the street isn't so bad. That's the price you pay to live so close to 495. You can see the signs for it from most apartments! However for the price it might be better to go further down the street towards Kingstowne and Springfield.
I agonized for months over where to live and ultimately had to sign the lease before I could visit the apartment. No matter where you live it will be expensive and traffic is also an issue all over Washington. However, after having visited other friend's apartments I am very satisfied with Jefferson.
I chose Jefferson because it was the one place that didn't have reviews labelled "Roach Motel". I refuse to live in those circumstances after college. Someone mentioned rats but I have never seen anything like that, even by the dumpster. Also, no bug problems in the apt which was my number one concern!
