3 Years and Still Satisfied

I have lived in this community since October 2006 and have enjoyed my stay. Of course, there have been minor problems during those 3 years and I have had my share of issues, but overall I am very satisfied. The neighbors in the townhomes are all friendly and quiet. As far as maintenance goes, whenever I have had a problem it has always been resolved quickly. Management has always been accomodating, and now even more so with the new more energetic and outgoing staff. Now, for the security gates....they are broken many times and when they are working they allow far too many cars to pass through. I wish there were some way to reduce the lapse of time before they begin to close. My other pet peeve is owners allowing their dogs to relieve themselves on public grass areas and sidewalks where people walk without cleaning up after them. The only other major issues that I have are: 1) in the Summer all the heat lingers on the upper level making it nearly impossible to cool off without the assistance of fans; 2) In the winter the lower level is cold, but that is easily remedied with a space heater; 3) The water bills are unusually high. For someone who has lived here for 3 years, I have grown accustomed to these problems and have adjusted my lifestyle accordingly. What I love about the community is that it is really quiet and convenient. The grounds are pretty clean and beautifully landscaped. The community is located across from a shopping strip which has anything you might need and is within walking distance of the elementary school, and it is right on the Metro and Dash Lines to the Pentagon and to Alexandria. It is very very convenient. If you can afford the rent, the townhomes are a nice place to live if you have small children and pets.

You would probably feel differently if the passenger side door was stolen off of your car as was on one of the 15 or so cars that were broken into this past summer. I'm surprised that given the security problems, heating and cooling problems coupled with the high water bills, that you are satisfied with the rent that you are paying, which by the way was increased again this year. Did you also know that they are reducing the amount of shuttle pick ups and drop offs to the metro? Just a few blocks away on King Street you can find brand new apartments with upgraded appliances for either the same amount or less without all of the issues listed above.

The car break-ins had never happened before and were due to the gates being broken. I am not saying that this community is the best, but I have lived other places in Alexandria and can say without a doubt this is the best so far. I am sorry that your car got broken in to that was unfortunate. As for the shuttle, I get a transit subsidy so I take the Metrobus which goes directly to Pentagon Metro Center. I have tried the shuttle, but the timing never seemed to work for my schedule since I have to walk my child to school. The problems I have experienced are minor in comparison to previous places I have lived. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I like the community because it is quiet and the neighbors, at least my neighbors, are great. I especially enjoy the convenience. It only takes me 20 minutes to get to work and my husband 15 minutes. The bus situation at other places is not as convenient. No this community is not perfect, and may not be for everyone, but I am the type of person who researches everything before I go into something and this place for me is the best alternative until I get ready to purchase a home. Besides, I live in a 2 bedroom den, 2.5 baths, and 2 car garage because I have a husband and 2 children. I don't like apartments, because when you have children someone always complains about their noise regardless of how little or much noise they make. If you look at the rates for a new apartment/townhome that size in other communities in Alexandria you will pay considerably higher.
