I really don't get what the other reviewers are talking about.

Move in day started it off well, when my roomate's dad "hired" 3 of the gardeners / tenants to help with move on. On the upside, I guess we made 3 new "amigos." On the downside, these guys seem to think my girlfriend is my roomate's girlfriend, and these guys seem to like asking her "Who's your daddy" (I think they mean to ask "where".. but...)

Pests... oh hell yeah! My roomate and I apparently inherited about 20000000 other roomates when we moved in. We've fought back (VaVil did get an exeterminator in here, twice) with everything we could buy, to some success, but it's definitely an uphil battle.

Parking. Well, great for residents. Tons of it, seriously. Guests, park on the street, because I think there's about 10 spots for the whole complex. That said, the street is a shaky proposition at best, best summarized by the rash of broken windows on said cars in the past 5 months. Oh, if you sell your car (like I just did), you ABSOLUTELY need to take knife to window and scrape the parking sticker off. They won't issue me a new one now because it was still on the other car. Of course the dealer scraped everything off the second the car was traded in, so until I move out in a couple weeks, street for me.

Laundy. One washer, one dryer per stairwell, covering roughly 12 apartments. Coin-op.

Space. Huge apartment. Great closet in master bedroom, small in the other but management with use of the hall as well.

Utilities. All included. HOWEVER, hot water was at a premium in the winter. Maybe one shower per apartment before 7am. Heat / AC is uneven in the apartment. My room got the short end of both, whereas my roomate always has the extreme. Creates some problems in that area. Apartment comes with one phone line set up, just activate. We went through Cox and had digital cable and cable modem set up in a matter of days, so that was a plus.

Appliances. Old but functional. Took them a while fix our stove on move-in. Aside form that, pretty much functional.

Noise. Not so bad inside your apartment. Unfortunately our apartment faces Little River Tpk, which isn't very fun. Stairwell noise isn't bad. I don't mind, but worth mentioning, kids EVERYwhere. Kinda funny, but if you're the type that isn't a fan..

Random other. Maintenance is pretty decent. Occassionally seen chickens in one of the parking lots ('!'!). Someone's always fixing a car in the lot. Funny, but useful b/c after a fender bender, got some random old Cuban guy (told me the whole life story) to hammer out the dent, patch up the metal with some graphite compound and paint it over for $200.. beats telling insurance and getting that on your record!

Rent. Cheap as hell. If you're willing to fight off some of the problems above and were originally from NYC / Chicago / Mexico City / Bombay or some other large metro / semi-urban / very ethnically diverse neighborhood (I mean, the complex boasts that there's 170 languages there), do what we did and get in. It's still a good value, problems aside. People are VERY fiendly, even if you may not be able to talk to your neighbors. Focus on value. This place is probably the best on-the-border example of being between ghetto or up and coming for 20-somethings. You could do worse for the money. If you don't have big $$$ to spend, this is a decent way to go.
