Thank goodness we left

Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2004
My roommate and I moved in in early January, 2003. It was our first rental experience after college. What an eye opener.
Our ceiling collapsed two weeks after we moved in. Crappy renovations were ultimately the problem. The ice line to the fridge had been run through the uninsulated attic space and burst in the cold. It was never repaired. It took almost a month to fix the ceiling.
Parking was a nightmare. The rules changed month to month, with no notice. We constantly had guests being towed for things that were within the rules a week before. Very frustrating. At $95 a pop, they need to notify residents of changes. Immediately.
Trash everywhere. Abandoned apartments. Roaches. Car windows been smashed at all hours of the night. The stairwell in our building had stair treads falling off. Windows were broken in the halls and never fixed. A minimum of three service requests was required to get anything fixed. The maintainence staff was argumentative and did shoddy work.
Management. Ah, management. Half-truths and excuses are not acceptable. I highly recommend calling the corporate office. They are much more helpful than the local people. We ended up moving out early. Since we transferred to another Archstone, we didn't pay any fees but what a hassle, all for a decent place to live! We are definately going to buy a place when our lease is up. This is just unacceptable!
