No rental apartment is going to be 100% perfect. Archstone Patriot Village is few notches up compared to others around here...or at least that's what I thought until our lease renewal notice showed up. Their greed has started to sour our thoughts about the community and I will no longer refer friends or coworkers to live here.

Apparently, the management no longer values decent residents who pay on time, etc. and who hope to stay longer. When we were up for lease renewal, we were shocked to find out that resigning for 6 months is far less per month than signing on for one more year. In fact, it would cost us over $400 more PER MONTH to sign another 12-month lease! Now from my experience, residents usually go into automatic month-to-month agreements after fulfilling the initial lease. However, certain time is money with Archstone & their reason for higher long-term leases is because of the "current housing demand in the area". In other words, it is much more profitable for them to kick you out and get new residents to pay the nonrefundable $400 community fee (which is in leiu of a typical, refundable security deposit)! I was really disappointed in the management when I got that letter; I had really thought a lot of them compared to previous landlords but now I see that all they really care about is the bottom line afterall...everything else is just a show. In addition to that (on the subject of money) is our new utility situation. These were supposed to be included in our rent but are now going to be separate and possibly higher than what we budgeted for when we chose this community. We were completely stuck and forced into agreement, as we couldn't just pick up and move again.

I am sure the Community Manager would say "Others just don't know all of the difficulties in running a community, all of the pressures from corporate, the rising costs of running a community, etc". Well, force out all of your good residents and see what happens. Patriot Village will end up just like all of the other getto communities drawing the crime and type of residents that no one wants. Why' The word is getting out, and no self-respecting potential resident with 1/2 a brain will get locked into such manipulation.
