I am a working professional in the DC area. My girlfriend and I moved into the area last summer trying to find something that was afordable and spacious. The models that archstone showcase are a complete and utter mirage. What looks so nice and big actually is the worst experience in my life. I have been renting for 10 years in a number of cities and this was by far the worst experience to date. Where to begin...'''
First and foremost, the people that live in this complex are very sketchy. In the past they have had gang related issues (check some of the old comments), as well as alot of crime. If that doesn't bother you, I have witnessed several drug deals happen right outside my apartment, as well as get confronted by a drug dealer in the plaza while trying to pick up my dinner asking me if I wanted some smack.
Another HUGE complaint is the noise. The walls here are paper thin, all I hear at all hours of the day and night are Latino music with the bass all the way up. I have complained numerous times and nothing seems to get done about it. Nothing like getting home from work and trying to relax and then have to listen to nothing but bass thumping until 2 in the morning.
Pests! If you have any disgust for rodents, pests, or anything of the sort you 100% will not want to stay one night here. This place is the worst I have ever seen. The ants come from everywhere...you buy traps, spray, call managment and have them spray...nothing works. It might go away for a week or so...but in no time they are back with avengence.
As stated in the past couple of posts, the garbage service is a nightmare here. I have no idea why but it seems that a certain type of ethnicity does not care that much about the way they handle taking out the trash. I have witnessed on several occasions people leaving there garbage outside there apartment piling up and attracting all sorts of lovely pests. You take a trip past the trash compactor and all you see is trash that "certain people" drop off instead of taking the 30 seconds to put it inside.
Test the washer and dryer before you move in!!! We have to dry stuff 2-3 times because it does not work right! If you also like random strangers coming into your apartment to do work (Verizon) and then go into the attic and get insulation all over your work clothes, suits, clothes, etc. and YOU END UP having to pay a $100 dry cleaning bill and not get reimbursed for it...you will love this place. Archstone will tell you the people working in your apartment are watched by security people from the complex which is true. However, many people had things go missing from there apartment...which tells you alot about this place.
Finally, if you like to see hundreds of illegal immigrants every morning on your way to work you will enjoy the drive down Little River Turnpike. If only ICE would do there jobs...DO NOT GET SUCKERED INTO RENTING FROM THIS PLACE. You will regret it the moment you move in.

that's funny. you talk about paper thin walls, well they are made out of concrete and I have never heard my neighbors

I second this review. Same situation for us. No one was helpful in the leasing office; you get the run around after you sign the lease. Fortunately, you can move out, no questions asked, within 30 days of your move-in date, but even this is a horrible experience. (The office "lost our paperwork" and it took us two months to get our money back.) You've described the environment very accurately. We left as fast as we moved in and found a cleaner, safer place in Alexandria.
