Let me start by saying I am usually a really laid back guy and have never complained about something in in a public forum like this before. I read all the reviews in which the authour is "confused" about the bad reviews of the Avant. Come on. All of the positive reviews about the Avant have the same wording or phrasing which lead me to believe they were all written by the same person. My guess one of the office staff, who by the way are usually rude and completely useless. Dont get me wrong everyone was really nice before I moved in. However once you move in its like they dont want to see or hear from you unless you have a rent check for them. Now I see alot of work being done on the buildings and I give them and A for effort but I think its like polishing a turd. These buildings are old, moldy, and down right dirty. The model apartment is very nice, too bad that is probably the only aparment they do any maintenance on. I should have known something was up when they would not let me see my apartment till the day I was to move in. Now for the worst part of all...After my car stereo was stolen and my girlfriend was harassed by the local gangs (we have MS, south side locos, and many smaller ones according to one of the officer I spoke to) I checked with the Fairfax County Police. Over the past three years there have been three murders, several rapes, countless breakins, and so many other crimes its ridiculous! Three murders are you freaking kidding me' And thats not all or Annandale, thats just the Avant! Dont believe me check for yourself. The latest murder was a couple of weeks ago in my building. I will not say to much and give away who I am in fear of retribution from the office staff, but it took place on Nathan Hale Drive. In the past few months that I have lived here the police have been here almost everyday. Now I know why. I am currently trying to transfer to a different community, but please, please do not make the same mistake that I did. Do not move here. PS I just noticed I can upload photos. I will try to submit some pictures of the trash hills, gang grafitti on buildings and other things they dont want you to see.

This is CRAZY! We had no idea that the murder even occured. Where would I be able to get info on it? I tried google, but nothing. I thought I would contact the office and ask but their typical response to me is "There is no manager here, nothing can be done about it" so it will be pointless. Be safe.

I am the author you are referring to when I wrote the review about being confused about the bad ratings. I can assure you that I am NOT a management plant, I AM a resident on Commons Drive. I stand by my review that the new Avant Management is doing an excellent job at upgrading the apartments as well as the complex. Now, I don't normally call people liars but after your report about 3 murders I searched the Fairfax County Police Blotter on-line and can find NO reference to these murders you speak about. I am however aware of the rapes that have taken place in the Fairfax County AREA - the closest on Hummer Road near Gallows Road which is ACROSS Little River TurnPike (236)and NOT in The Avant Apartment complex. Please point me in the right direction regarding where you found this information on the rapes and murders that occurred in the apartment complex. Notice: the Anonymous poster above couldn't find info either so I assume I am not calling you a liar in error. In addition, you mention local gangs that harassed your girlfriend. Anytime you are harassed, call the police and make a report. The police are very visual in the Annandale area. In fact, they drive through frequently which I assume is to prevent gangs from entrenching themselves in the apartment complex. Now, as far as trash and management: As I said in my post - management seems to bee getting a handle on the trash. However, the problem lies with tenants who toss their garbage bags on curbs and outside of the trash chutes. My recommendation to management is to send out notices that tenants will be charged $100 in fees if they do not dispose of trash properly. Management should open these bags and retrieve address information on any letters or junk mail. The tenant should receive a warning and on subsequent violations they should be assessed a $100 fee. This should help the trifling tenants get their garbage into the chute. And this will also have the parents instill in their children that the trash MUST go in the chute and not on the ground. Management should also stake out the dumpsters for the contractors that come and offload their construction garbage for free. Normally, contractors have to rent dumpsters or take their garbage to the dump. However, I have seen many pickups pull up to dumpsters with old furniture and construction debris and offload. They should also be assessed fees - maybe $500.
