They invested in the wrong areas. It looks wonderful with nice brick buildings and renovated interior. But, the antiquated pipes break down constantly. I am fed up because I am currently sitting in my apartment without hot water - the third time in 4 weeks. Heating also breaks down often. It is a reoccurring problem since I moved in 18 months ago. What makes matters worse is the bills for heating, electricity, etc. We are not held accountable for our own energy use. The bills are pooled together and cost is evenly distributed among the Avant community. The charges are outrageous due to drafty windows, lack of user accountability, and old facilities that use much power. Also, I work in DC, and it is difficult to get there being so far from the metro.

This is all true. The windows are from the 1960's, the utility bills don't reflect what you use, and we have to pay for heat/hot water regardless of how many times management shuts it off. A memo was distributed stating the contractor was working "around the clock" to fix the problem. Not true--I can see the contractor personnel from my window, and they are not here.
