I've only lived here for 5 months, and so far I have not have had any problems. I read some of the ratings on this site before moving in, and was of course somwhat worried and sceptical.
My experience so far have been good, both with the apartmens, neighbors and management. I do have a feeling that it all depends in what area of The Avant you live, that you will see more problems in certain parts. But so far -"no problems". According to Fairfax police department, this is a high crime area.
Yes You have to share the cost of utilities with the rest of your building, which I find unfair. I can see from my apartment that there is some apartments where ther is living a whole bunch of people. Not sure if I take all this ratings for true. Some of them have the same wordings and complaints, could be some very unfourtunate person that does everything to paint the comunity. I've been told that there is a new management that will make changes, we will have to wait and see how that might turn out. But so far I have not have any problems, knock on wood.
Let's see if I have to eat my words later, but I like the apartment, my neighbors and the management.
Let's cross our fingers and make this a great comunity!!!

I only lived in the community for a year and that was too long. I hope that you don't eat your words, but I fear that you may. Unfortunately, I can tell you that the complaints that are posted are not from one person, they're from a whole bunch of people. When I moved out there were several people moving out at the same time and all of us were ready to get the heck out of dodge...lol. Well I hope the best for you, good luck!

I will say the this has been a looooong year at the Avant. I would NOT recommend living here. It's dirty, people working on cars in the parking lot and in my building there were a few apartments with alot of people living in them. ??? Also, watch out for the TOW TRUCKS. I've had my car towed I think at least 5 times this year from not having a resident sticker (which was not given to me at my signing of the lease) to parking in the guest spaces having a resident sticker. The utilities are shared with the building which I don't agree with and my building has a problem with roaches and I've seen a few rats running around outside of the buildings. Also, constant problems with shutting of your heat/ac for repairs. So...RENTER BEWARE!!!!
