I mostly blame myself for signing the lease at The Avant, I guess it was my fault for not looking up the reviews prior to moving in. I'm not from the area and had I known anyone here prior to moving (i found it on rent.com) they could have told me I'd be better off living in a dumpster in any other city in virginia. I moved in the winter and everything seemed to be ok. I actually thought I had recieved a good deal. Well once the warm weather hit I realized I was completely wrong. 1. Half of the apartments house 6 ppl at a time (most of which I'm willing to bet would be terrified if immigration showed up) who have no sense of decency and don't care about blasting their music or having siestas outside all night long. The management office doesn't seem to care, and they claim there's on site security but I'm pretty certain that if there was, they should be patrolling and not doing whatever it is they do that they don't notice all the noise. 2. The ancient AC unit in my apartment has broken 3 times in the last 2 mos, not only causing an annoyance to me, but also leaking downstair to the apartment below me.
I think the worst part of it all is the fact that the staff is awful to deal with. The lower level desk workers/receptionist seem like they either 1. are completely incompetent or 2. are expertly trained in giving you the run around. The only answer I've ever gotten was "The manager is out of the office, we can take a message and someone will call you back". Not completely out of the ordinary, but with the lack of "management" going on, where could she really be'' Plus, she doesn't have a voicemail'''
Seriously, avoid this place like the plague. Unless of course you're looking for useless staff and 3rd-world country style living

I feel for you. I'm just lucky that I decided not to go with the Avant, had I read reviews (I thought the place was too new, they sure acted like it was just taken over by new mgmt.)I would never have considered it. They still ripped me off for $200, but I'm going to complain to the County.
