The layout of these apartments are really great, but the neighborhood is not very good at all. There are a lot of problems here.

The previous reports about crime are pretty accurate. There seems to be gang activity here and in Annandale in general. We've noticed "tags" around town. There was at least one rape that I know of, which we learned about on the news! I must say, it was creepy seeing our apartment complex on television!

The surrounding areas aren't the greatest, either. There is a shopping center within walking distance, which means that grocery carts are often left all over the grounds. Also, there is a 7-11 across the road which, since it is 24 hours, many people cross through the neighborhood to get there late at night. Down the road a bit there is a McDonalds where groups of men wait in the morning to be picked up for odd jobs. It just makes the whole place feel a little downtrodden.

Back to the neighborhood... Often times, people loiter in the parking lots, which has made us feel very uncomfortable. We've felt nervous having friends come over in the evenings because we don't want them to get into any sticky situations. Basically, we only go out during the daytime, which makes us feel like we are prisoners.

Parking is a problem, as others have said. There would probably be enough spaces to park in if the number of residents was appropriate to the apartments. Meaning, five or six adults can live in one apartment, it seems, and thus, they bring their cars with them. The parking spots are almost never near your building, which means you often have to walk a long distance from your car to your apartment. Also, you can't see your car from your apartment, so you have no idea if it is being broken into or if it will even be there in the morning.

Another thing, people ALWAYS honk their horns, all hours of the day. And not just little toots, but long drawn out HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONKSSSSS!! for their friends to come out. Double parking is a big issue, too. Also, many people speed through, and that's dangerous. I've had to swerve out of the way one too many times to avoid an accident!

In keeping with the noise mentioned above, the buildings are very loud. Sometimes we can even feel the apartment shaking when our neighbors walk across their floors. That's kind of disconcerting! You can hear their TV and music (lucky for us, our neighbors have pretty good taste in music...) and if anyone is arguing, you hear it all. Also, people often yell in the hallways and will bang on doors and the like.

We've had minor problems with bugs, only a few once in a blue moon, and we've never had roaches. We've had centipedes and silver fish, though, but only one or two. Not enough to feel like your place is infested.

Some good points are that maintenance is very prompt and does a pretty good job. The office staff is good too, aside from one or two people. But, you do get the feeling that they care. The apartments are old, so they are quite spacious, which is nice. You definitely get a lot of space. However, we have friends who live in an apartment that is smaller than this one, but in a neighborhood that is TONS nicer, and they pay the same price. Safety can be bought elsewhere, but you will lose out on a couple extra square feet. Also, they are allowing dogs now, which is nice.

We've noticed a lot of moving vans lately, and it's giving us the idea to move out, too. Like I said, we can get an apartment for the same price in a MUCH nicer area. Basically, Annandale is a crappy town.
