It's not all THAT bad folks

I moved in about 6 weeks ago. We were previously homeowners in an area where it was possible to own, so we have had to rethink our expectations a bit. However, I would say that overall, it's not a bad place to live, and it could be much worse.
The amount of space you get for the $$ is well worth a little noise from the upstairs neighbors. Not to dismiss the fact that the family of 4 upstsirs with 2 small children sound like elephants, especially the toddler. The vacuuming at 11:30pm is a bit much, and they do play the music a bit loud, but it is, for the most part, tolerable. It is, after all, apartment living.
While I have not had more than one occasion to encounter the office staff, I did find them a bit cold. Joe, however, is the exception. Quite helpful, even seems to be carrying the load for some others. I was put off that the leasing staff seemed very unwilling to assist me on one occasion now that we actually rent and briskly informed me that we needed to take our concern to the resident services. I didn't know, a friendly redirect would have been nicer.
The pool is fabulous! We have an 8 yo who loves swimming. The life guards are great. Very sweet to us, and do try to keep the wilder teens and young ones under control. Since children ages 13-17 are allowed to come unaccompanied they have their work cut out for them some days. They keep it clean, and test the water all day long.
I, too, find the diversity a great thing. I think nearly every unit in our building has a different nationality living in it. How cool to be able to raise a child in an environment where we all greet each other with a smile.
I'll address the bug issue. We had a few, very small roaches. They came out the next business day. I did NOT have to clean everything out of my cupboards. The exterminator remarked that he was surprised that we had a problem as our unit was among the cleanest he's seen. But my husband worked on the 9th floor of a university reasearch facility and there were roaches there too. It's a city folks, it has bugs! Wash your dishes, clean your sink every day, mop the floor every now and again, and keep the food sealed, it's not that hard.
I would recommend this complex. It's not swanky, but our building at least is clean(the women that come everyday and clean the common areas do a bang up job!!), with friendly neighbors, and I can think of far worse places one could reside.
