DO NOT GET INVOLVED WITH THIS PROPERTY OR ANY OTHER PROPERTY MANAGED/OWNED BY SOUTHERN MANAGEMENT CORPORATION!
Where to begin' Had we only known how bad it would be, we would never have signed a lease! Dealing with on-site office staff was, for most part, a nightmare from day 1. They were confused, kept changing what needed to be provided in order to get lease (3 college kids seeking to rent), lost application and other paperwork several times, changed amount of rent and security deposit required multiple times, did not have paperwork available to sign when special trip made to sign, charged for credit check on one roomate's parents when not needed, etc.
At move-in, tried to charge additional money not agreed to in lease (it took several calls to straighten this out and the "accountant" was rude from the first word of the first call.
Various problems throughout lease with apartment. Worst was garbage disposal which was on it's last gasp when we moved in and broke repeatedly with little use. Management refused to fix so we went 8 months without one.
When (FINALLY!) our lease was nearly up, provided notice that we were moving which was later claimed to never have been given. Father called to discuss move-out date and staff later could not remember call. Seven weeks after move-out received call threatening immediate legal action if $1700 not paid same day for "damaged" and 1/2 month's rent. Claimed keys were never turned in. (It turned out that the person in the office who took the keys on move out date had put them in the wrong "box" and forgot about it.) Refused to provide breakdown of damages, then offered to "settle" for $1300" if payment received same day. Gave one day to "get the money", then took the $1300 "deal" off the table the next day when leaseholder insisted on a breakdown of the charges. Southern Management collections person threatening and abusive. Stated that law suit would be filed the next day, nothing could be done. Promised to have his boss call to discuss - never called. 14 phone messages left for collections guy, his boss, and his boss's boss over course of next two days. None returned. Didn't get response until researching company on internet and attempting to contact the president of the company. Referred to "community relations liaison" who was very pleasant as he lied about what needed to be done to resolve. Since then, despite repeated attempts, no call back.
Bottom line: The apartments aren't bad (though heating, laundry facilities, odd odors, disposal, noise level, and parking were all an issue at various and sometimes on-going points BUT the on-site management staff and the off-site owner/management company are IMPOSSIBLE TO DEAL WITH, RUDE, DISORGANIZED, ARGGHHHHH! Again, DO NOT GET INVOLVED WITH THIS PROPERTY OR ANY OTHER PROPERTY MANAGED/OWNED BY SOUTHERN MANAGEMENT CORPORATION! (To be fair, the grounds and safety rate 3 stars and construction and parking rate 2 stars. I gave everything 1 star because 0 stars wasn't an option (deserved by the staff for sure!) and I didn't want this complex to have more than 1 star overall because the MANAGEMENT IS SO BAD! vWhRVi5nYYIuEh4W7K3l
