Quirky, But A Great Place

Most of what the "negative" reviewers have said is true-but it's those quirky things that I love about the place. The outdated lobby furniture and fake flowers in the ashtrays are just comical (AARP pamphlets in the lobby, etc.). The manager really is friendly, you just have to get to know her. Jose the maintenance guy is not creepy at all-unless you consider it creepy that someone takes the time to learn your name, smiles, and says 'Good Morning' to you.

I work and travel a lot so it's a great place to hang my hat and relax when I'm actually there. The 2BR price is great for the location. I looked into switching to a studio and that price is a little high for the area. It's a six minute walk to the Metro and mall, less than a ten minute walk to Pentagon Row shops or Restaurant Row (23rd St. in Crystal City). If your balcony faces the park it can get a little loud in the early evening or an early morning after a long night, but it's really nice to sit out there and see trees and life instead of staring at busy roads or concrete buildings like you do in the larger apartment complexes in the area. It is a piece of residential land near the highway, but set back far enough where traffic cannot be heard.

Kitchens and bathrooms are small, but appliances are new. I think the bedrooms are decently sized, and it's a large living room and nice dining room nook for the price. No fitness center or pool, but I live here for the price and convenience. I work in property management. I've lived here for two years now and never had a single maintenance problem or concern. If you're expecting a beautiful Charles Smith (not my employer) property with tons of amenities, this is not the place for you-just know that going into it.

One major downside is the coin-operated laundry room: 1 washer, 1 dryer per floor (about 10 apartments per floor). I'm usually doing laundry at 9pm or later and have only had to go to another floor to do laundry a handful of times. I thought trying to do laundry on the weekends would be crazy, but I haven't really had any issue there either. The apartments have numerous and large closets and I'd like to see them run 220v lines into the apartments so the washer/dryer could be in-unit.

Just a note though: if you decide to live here, time your laundry so that others can use it too! 35min. for washer and 45min. for dryer!

If I'm still working in the area when it's time to renew my lease, I'll stay here.
