Started out good, ended terribly

Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2005
I have lived in Lincoln Towers for about a year now and am moving out this coming weekend. At this point, I cannot get out fast enough. Initially, I was excited to live in such a nice building (or so I thought), but little by little, I realized that things weren't as they initially seemed. First, my heat didn't work for almost 2 entire months this past winter. They kept coming and saying it was fixed only to break again within days. Finally, they replaced my unit and while doing so, spilled oil all over my closet carpet and completely scratched up the walls. They didn't bother to clean up or re-paint until I called the manager to complain. They fixed it 2 days later and he offered me 2 free movie tickets as compensation for my troubles...ha! Also, they have raised rent, even though they cannot fill the apartments as is and now you have to pay for water so they put a regulator on it and it takes at least 10 minutes to get hot in the morning. That way, everyone pays more for water because they just add up what water costs for the entire building and divide it by the number of people living there and that's what they charge you...because that's fair. Finally, they are charging me an arm and a leg for a late move out notice. They require 60 days notice and even though I didn't receive my letter of what it would cost me to renew my lease until 50 days before it expired, they are making me pay the difference, which amounts to around $300, which is ridiculous. The apartments are really not that nice for the price, my neighbors are not friendly and it's becoming more and more older people living in the building (think parents). The only thing it has going for it is the accessibility to the metro and a few nice people that work at the front desk. STAY AWAY!
