You can do better.

Years at this apartment: 2001 - 2007
When I moved in in 2001, I thought this place was great. Friendly management, great amenities, and a pretty unbeatable location. But then the company got bought out and the management went downhill very fast. They became more unfriendly and impersonal, and all directives came from corporate headquarters, especially involving rents. They didn't treat my apartment as my home, but rather as a big rectangular box with a door that I paid them money for. It was just a source of revenue to them. The fixtures and appliances are cheap and don't function well, and when the microwave in my unit stopped heating food properly, instead of fixing it, they insisted it was fine because it boiled water (the problem being that water heats evenly, unlike say, a plate of leftovers).
There's almost no storage space in the unit - only a walk-in closet in the bedroom and a hall closet between the bedroom and living room, which would be a great place for coats if it were maybe near the front door.
The balcony has been useless for the past four years due to construction going on across the street, and because of the construction, there is constant light coming into the apartment, even at night. They're constantly blocking or rerouteing traffic on Randolph Street for construction vehicles. It'll be done soon, but it seems management either had no power or no desire to request that the construction company be more considerate of the residents.
Several maintenance jobs I've requested needed to be completed more than once because the first time they were done incompetently. And when they 'upgraded' the pipes in the building, someone decided to unhook a water line they weren't working on that day and flooded my apartment. Because they failed to record my work phone number correctly, I only found out about it when I arrived home and saw that they had taken the liberty of roughly moving all my furniture out of the way. Some of it was damaged beyond repair. The people who came to clean and repair the carpet did a lousy job, taping together bits of padding (cheap, thin padding, too - it's like walking on the bare concrete) so that you could hear the crunch whenever you stepped on it, and you can still see the seams where they had to cut the carpet.
And parking. It was fine when I arrived there, and like everything else went completely downhill. They kept promising to tow people who were parked in multiple spaces or parked without a sticker, but that was pretty much a joke. And with all the pillars in parking spaces, if you drive anything larger than a Mini, you might have trouble finding a place to put your car if you come back late at night. The safety mirrors between levels of the garage were destroyed by giant SUVs and the staff refused to replace them or get payment from the people who drove into them, making the turn from level 1 to 2 and 2 to 3 very dangerous. There are two entrances to the garage, but one is usually out of service because some moron drove into the gate.
The elevators have been having issues for a couple of years, too, and they've constantly been promising to fix them, but don't seem to have done anything yet. I guess they're waiting for headquarters to tell them how much they have to raise rent to do it.
There are a lot of places near Metro stops, and I would guess that all of them are better than Lincoln Towers. Go look at them, but don't even consider moving in here.
