I was apprehensive at first to reside here due to negative reviews, but the staff allayed my fears, went out of their way to assist me with all of my move-in needs, provided me with multiple alternatives, kept me well-informed, exercised great patience with my decision-making and did not pressure me. The complex has many rules, but they're not overly enforced and are intended for the overall betterment of the community. The negative reviews obviously came from folks who chose not to adhere to the rules and degraded the quality of life. Maintenace requests were promptly handled. The janitorial staff keeps the building and grounds in tip-top shape and are very respectful. Lots of preventive maintenace is performed, both cosmetically and structurally. The units are kept in good condition. Without a doubt, the most outstanding feature was the staff efficiency and courtesy. This includes the leasing office, concierge, finance office, management office, maintenance, and janitorial. I previously resided here on other short-term assignments in the Washington area and can attest that staff courtesy is tremendously improved. For those who intend to follow the rules, don't be scared off by the many negative reviews. You won't suffer any adverse effects.

Not necessarily, mister or mrs. Some of us take issue with the steep rent and price gouging. If you can't get a grasp on that and actually have no qualms about your rent going up every year, including steep utility prices, then apparently you have money to burn. But the average person doesn't.

"Rules" Where on earth did you read that? Has nothing to do with the rules and everything to do with the price hikes. Maybe your company is still paying for your apartment so you never see the bills - but trust me, at the end of your 12 month lease you are going to be in for a surprise :-)
Good Luck!

This person really misses the point. I adhere to all the rules but it is the management who refuses to enforce rules. The management staff were not helpful at all in responding to my complaints about a noisy neighbor. On Saturday nights you have drinking parties by the pool, and I have been harrassed as I walked into the building, but this is tolerated. They do not uphold their rules and the result has been a steady decline in tenant behavior. They have also not been helpful/customer-service oriented--I have lived here two and a half years without a car and I couldn't get a parking pass for a mere three days when I had to rent a car. The leasing staff has been very condescending (she knows who she is). The most positive thing is the maintenance and janitorial staff, who are responsive, polite, and helpful. Maybe they should be managing the place. I'm moving soon, and am disappointed that it has been a declining quality of life in this building.

Between apartment rent and the price of parking it is expensive to live at Ballston Square. But, you make the decision to pay those fees when you sign a lease. The concierge and maintenance staff are very nice and accommodating. It's the management staff that has pushed us out. For very personally upsetting reasons, the management staff has made it uncomfortable for me to continue living at Ballston Square. Please think twice about living here.

I'm deciding now whether to move into this unit, but this post doesn't relieve my fears. It sounds like it's written by an Archstone rep. in a transparent attempt to shift the blame to anyone who complains as a "rule breaker."
