Great location, dubious business practices.

I wish there was an option to check maybe because LT is not a bad place to live. Here are the 's:

-great location near metro and bars
-cats allowed
-garage
-well insulated walls
-maintenance on top of problems
-24 hour concierge
-secure
-great view depending on location of apt
-endless opportunities to socialize
-huge garage to fit in a semi so it's convenient for moving in and out

Now the minuses.
-expensive, expensive, expensive
-utilities were once included but in the middle of my lease they changed policy. Is that legal' Not sure. I was assured that my utility bill would be low or at least not exceedingly high which is why I renewed my lease. But this turned out to be a fabrication.
-elevators not reliable. I've waited on my floor for at least 20 mins for elevator to arrive and I lived high up.
-elevators break down. Goes back to elevators not reliable. I keep telling my bf (who is a lawyer) that it is a lawsuit waiting to happen. I've had the elevator drop from ground level to P1 while I was in it and suffered an anxiety attack. My stepmother is a witness to it.
-no guest parking. My bf snuck and parked anyway and only got caught twice. It's up to you whether you want to take a risk. The two truck place is within walking distance should you need to pick up your car.
-only one car allowed per unit
-pet rent is $50 a month and a two pet maximum
-pool is only four feet deep if even that
-tow truck driver is an idiot and ran through the garage entrance thus breaking the gate. Would you trust that guy to tow people's cars' I have photos, btw.
-rent is raised every year. I never understood why they would raise the rent instead of trying to keep people there. They must have a rate of turn over'
-ridiculously priced short term leases. Your wallet will get fleeced.
-crappy cabinets and things in the apartment break easily.
-the elevators used to have cool mirrors but because of budget limitations they replaced the elevators without it (I was told this by the staff).

Now here is my beef with LT. I moved out and there was no post inspection offered or required. I was charged for new carpet and told it had to be replaced because the cat peed on it and that I was lucky I didn't get charged for ruining the concrete. This is simply not true and someone is flat out lying to make me pay for the carpet. LT should be required to take photos and submit proof before they send a bill to someone for carpet replacement. In fact someone did come and inspect and said everything looked okay. I'm really shocked at this charge.

Say that the cat did pee on the carpet, how could it ruin the concrete' Either way it is just not true. Because I had a seven month lease I watched over that carpet to make sure it stayed immaculate because I knew they would charge me if they had to rip it out. But it's my word against theirs and I am no longer physically present to argue or confront them about it.

Another problem was utilities. How could it go from thirty something a month, if even that, to a hundred dollars' They tried to say it was the cost of gas but it's still around a hundred dollars and that is not including electric which ended up being cheaper than water, sewage, etc.

If you have a two bedroom and you are one person living in it then you will get charged as if two people reside in your unit. Now this may have changed at some point but I recall it being this way when I left.

My advice to you is to take photos of the carpet and the whole area before you move in and especially after you move out. Let me give you another example of dubious business practices. The photos you see attached to this review are phony. Those are not pictures of LT and that is most definitely not a picture of the outside of LT. LT looks nothing like that on the outside, why are those photos attached to this apartment review'

Also, if you have move into the 1172 sq ft apt be warned that a regular sized couch or a couch over six feet will not fit through the door. I had to return my couch because it would not fit and the man who lived in the apt before me told me his couch wouldn't fit either. Also, the girl who moved in after me told me she was really angry because the leasing office told her that her large couch should be no problem and they basically lied and she had to buy a new couch. She was fuming about it on the elevator.

Also, your refrigerator door will only partially open in that floor plan. If you have a bad back you should consider another floor plan. Seriously. And if you want to get a flat mate, just know that both rooms are not equal size and in the smaller room the windows are positioned oddly which makes is taxing when it comes to rearranging furniture.

As for moving in out and of the building, LT reserves the elevator for you in three hour increments which, if you have tons of stuff, is not enough time to move things in and out. Consider how much stuff you really need to bring with you.

The weight room is nothing to write home about. The equipment is often broken and unusable. I would classify it as dangerous because if it's not working properly then someone could get injured. The treadmills are interesting though as you can watch television while you walk, jog, or run, but there is no sound. Bring your own headphones.

Two people I know of killed themselves in their apartments. I would ask which one in case stuff like that creeps you out. I took real estate and by law they must disclose to you whether your unit is the one.

If it wasn't for these annoying flaws, LT is a great place to live but I would most definitely take your expenses into consideration and I would make sure the management and leasing team clarify everything in writing. So I wil say yes to living here but a friend of mine says LT is too sterile for his taste, however, I don't agree. It is Northern VA after all, home of the government worker and defense contractors and IT nerds. You're not going to find cutting edge or trendy living here.
