I've lived here for the past year and, overall, have been happy with the experience. The grounds and fitness center are generally well-maintained and I found the fitness center to be convenient, although in need of more ellipticals. However, there are some misplaced maitenance priorities- gates have been broken and hallway light figures burned out for months, but management still insists on making residents keep their cars out of the garage for 2 days to repaint parking-space lines that are clearly visible. Repainting the elevator (which is primarily for move-ins anyway) seems like it should be less of a priority than maintaining the hallway lighting!

I'd also have to agree with previous comments on the reliability of the metro communte. As a grad student, I often commuted at off-peak times and, on serveral occassions, had to wait for over an hour when the 22B (which only runs every 40 minutes outside of commute hours) failed to show up and I had to wait another 40 minutes for the next one. During regular commute hours, though, I've never had a problem- just know the schedule before going out after work!

I also agree that the people in the leasing office are not very helpful- I've had them be downright rude when trying to pick up a package during hours when the package office is supposed to be open, and I've also had them tell me incorrect information.

Overall, I liked my apartment (particularly the kitchen, which was fabulous!), liked the grounds, especially the courtyards, and almost never had problems with my neighbors or with finding a parking space. My one big gripe with the Avalon is how much the rent increased when it came time to renew our lease!
