I really love Avalon. My roommate and I moved here after graduating from college, and now she's buying a home and I am looking for a one-bedroom. Avalon's one-bedrooms are way too expensive for me so I MUST move out.
PROS -spacious living and dining area -everything looks and breathes 'new-ness' (washers, dryers, all kitchen appliances, paint job) -they allow you to paint your apt -garage parking is free for first car, $50 for second -package room ladies are really nice and responsible, never had a problem with my packages even though I sometimes left my packages there for several days -I've used the metro bus a few times which takes you to Pentagon station, it's free for Avalon residents and it's reliable/on time -I barely see my neighbors. I really have no idea what most of them look like. I have seen 3 different ones no more than twice -my roommate and I can barely tell when the other is home or now because the walls are apparently very thick, which means we never hear our neighbors in the halls or other apts either -when you drive into the Avalon community it just looks so lovely. My guests are always saying, "wow, you must be ballin! this place is nice" -the hallways are clean and cute -I worked in DC and drove there every day and that was a breeze. I complain sometimes when it takes me only 40minutes on a HORRIBLE traffic day. On a normal day, it takes 10-20 minutes to get there, park, badge in.. -Most people that live here are wealthy, business travelers and successful college graduates such as myself, haha. -Within the community there are streets. These streets provide ample parking for residents to use who are in a rush and don't feel like going thru the remote-controlled garage and driving up the winding garage. These streets are great for guests to use, no guest pass needed. -There is also guest parking on the top level of the garage, but make sure you have a guest parking pass or the grimy tow company will come borrow your car. -My parents and my roommate's parents are always trying to visit (this may be a CON) because they love this place -Our floorplan is great- both of us have a walk-in closet in our rooms and our own private bathrooms inside our rooms. Also, our rooms are on the opposite of the apt so we have our own space to breathe.
CONS -the parking spots were tight at times and I did get a ding from someone's car door -i'm so bitter that the price of a one-bedroom is $1400 and doesn't include any utilities. that is ridiculous to me. -Somehow a few people's navigation gps devices were stolen from their vehicles one day. Unfortunately, crime is everywhere. Luckily that rarely happens around here. Now, I've been removing my gps from my windshield. -my boyfriend's car was towed in the garage. He had the guest parking pass on the car but didn't park in the right spot. There aren't any signs; you just have to make sure you're at the VERY top. I've always been bitter about paying the $100 to get his car back, so I put it as a con. -There was this one time where the dishwasher was acting up and I called maintenance. A day went by and surprisingly my roommate decided to stick her hand in the drain and unclog the sink. They came AFTER we fixed it ourselves. Usually they're here right away, but that one time they took a day or two.
If you're thinking about Avalon at Arlington Square, I'm assuming you can afford it so I'd recommend trying to get in.
