Good Complex, Bad Neighborhood

I'll say at the outset that I only lived here for a short time, but long enough to become acquainted with the complex and with the neighborhood. The complex feels well-maintained and looks nice, and the apartment I was in had nice amenities and no problems. Granted, we were on the fourth floor, so bugs were not a potential problem. Also, the garage parking is convenient, although visitors have to park on the street, and there is not a lot of streetside parking for the size of complex.
The big negative is neighborhood. The neighborhood, for all intents and purposes, is Columbia Pike, and it is simply not a safe neighborhood. Granted, the apartment complex itself is well-lit and feels safe, but less than two blocks away and you are among dingy brick buildings and suspicious types who congregate on street corners after dark. For people who are going to drive straight to and from work (and the commute is very convenient, which is a plus), it's not much of an issue, but those with families or who are looking for a vibrant neighborhood should look elsewhere (it's vibrant, just not in a good way.)
