Honest Opinion

Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2006
I lived in Ballston Place for a year. Like someone said earlier ... MIKE IS THE MAN. I absolutely loved him. Sandy is moody. Laura is helpful. Maintenance comes when they say they will.
Rent is absurd but what you will expect to pay near a Metro line. You are not paying for the room in your apartment, you are paying for the ammenities. There is a nice work out room, pool, concierge, dry cleaners, convenience store (with great, fresh sandwiches), etc. ... and the metro.
They take care of your packages for you (UPS, etc.)
Convenient location.
We never had a problem with noise, so I don't know what these other posts are talking about. Perhaps we were just lucky to not have loud neighbors. (Or perhaps we were the loud neighbors!)
There is a great mix of people that live there. Some students; a lot of young professionals (20s early 30s) and business men (who seem to only be there during the week). If you are a female, there is one man who always harmlessly hits on the younger women in the elevator. It became a joke with my friends and I think he knew it. He was harmless.
Parking sucks. For one car you only pay $35 a month ... which is extremely reasonable. The unreasonable and aggrivating part is that for our 3 bedroom/ 3 car household we only had that one parking spot. And to add another car to the lot it is $200 a month PER CAR. It would make more sense to have 1 parking spot for a 1 & 2 bedroom and 2 for a 3 bedroom ... but not all things when it comes to management are logical I guess. There were definitely enough spots for them to do that in the garage.
We were on the 20th floor and the only complaint I had about that is this: The sliding glass door would not seal all of the way when shut. So during the winter wind it literally sounded like a hurricane in living room. Maintenance tried several times to fix it and finally ended up just replacing the entire doorway. They were super nice about it though and started trying to fix it ASAP.
There is a garbage shoot on each floor so you don't have to lug it downstairs, which is nice.
Oh, and the master bedroom is huge. The walk in closet is huge. And the bathroom is huge. I particuarly enjoyed the garden tub.
The apartment over all was very nice. I LOVED the gas fireplace.
We moved out because they raised our rent by $300, and we already thought it was outrageous to begin with. (Smith properties apparently doesn't care if the rent is outrageous). But if it fits in your budget, I say go for it. Arlington is a wonderful, safe place to live ... and there are several great restaurants and bars nearby.
Also, the construction sucks. I am an early riser but if I wasn't it would be really annoying. The construction should be completed soon (for the building going up next door).
Hope this helps...
