I was the previous reviewer that didn't have a problem with management last year, by the way.
New management is horrible.
A lot of tenants have moved in that have no respect for the building. The trash room up here is constantly a sty. It's not the cleaning staff's fault, they see to it every morning, but that's not frequent enough. I think this would easily be fixed by a picture on the garbage chute. I made that suggestion, management couldn't be bothered to draw up a poster.
The laundry room is in constant disrepair. On any given day, washers and dryers may or may not be working, and the ones that are supposedly functional may or may not wreck or shrink your clothing. The shrinking started after some maintenance done to the dryer vent, and now none of the dryers seem to be low enough heat to not shrink new clothes. Yes, on low.
My husband and I found appeal in having storage accessible to us. Good luck with that with the new we're never here office hours. So if you want to go for a weekend bike ride, too damn bad.
Like me, management has given up on the gym. Better to just throw out dysfunctional equipment then to replace it, right' I've asked for a rower 40 thousand times. At first, I cycled. Then my cycle broke. So I moved over to the treadmill. Now that's busted. Ab machine' Shot. They bought cheap home gym equipment instead of professional gym equipment so it breaks early and often, and when it does, forget that segment of your workout. Management did listen to me when I requested a paper towel dispenser down there. However, the dispenser is rarely stocked.
The office computers available to the public haven't been updated or replaced since I moved in. It's a little thing, but again, it's something to consider if they're going to charge an amenities fee.
I have heard many horror stories about tenants moving out being slapped with insane cleaning and repair fees. I'll go to court if that occurs in my case.
I've seen a lot of new dings and dents in my car over the last year that seem to occur overnight in the parking lot.
Noise is becoming an issue with new neighbours. There was one night where I nearly called the police. When it's not an issue with the neighbours, maintenance are up very early mowing, chipping away at things, hammering, and what not. If I could shut my window, this wouldn't be so much of an issue.
Other tenants more organised than I banded together and offered management a petition with a large number of signatures. Management replied with a poorly worded form letter basically ignoring the petition.
No more holiday parties, probably because office staff doesn't want to be bombarded by richly deserved complaints.
It's everything I can do to not scream to new renters not to rent here when they're touring the building.
I've since complained about the thermostat seeing as how they are now going to charge me a utility bill if I extend my lease past this year. (I won't be doing that, but didn't want to screw the next tenant so I wanted to get that fixed now.) They replaced my almost caught fire blower motor in my HVAC with a swapped one from down the hall. $10 thermostat part to fix the problem for good' Apparently too expensive. So it's still a furnace in the winter and a freezer in the summer. I've still got my windows open. I've since talked to other tenants on the 8th floor, and they all say that it's the same in their units. As a past landlord, it's ridiculous not to give tenants a digital thermometer that actually works. It's a cheap and easy fix.
I reported a leaking faucet. After totally tearing apart my bedroom closet to get to the bathroom access panel, the work was completed, but once again, very cheap parts were not located to permanently solve the problem. A responsible fix would be to gut the bathroom and install a single tap shower. I realise this is expensive from a landlord's perspective, and I also realise the ideal time is between tenants. To just overtighten the leaky tap either from lack of parts or lack of drive is a dumb patch job. If it's lack of parts, inconvenience me twice to permanently fix the issue. Maintenance staff themselves seem caring and aware of the permanent fixes, they just seem flustered by management.
Stuff breaks. I can live with that. I can live with wanting to make a profit.
I cannot live with people unapologetically ruining my steak. That, sir, is my line. Can't be bothered to tell me when a refrigerated package has arrived' Don't sign for it, office staff. I had to restrain myself from driving to the CEO's house in Maryland to drop my rotten steak on his doorstep this morning to see how he liked it.
What I did the *first* time the office staff decided to ignore the big ice chest from Burger's with the big orange label that reads "Refrigerate immediately" was chew out the office staff, tell them to refuse perishable shipments from then on, and ask about for a supervisor's number. The office staff is quite happy to blame UPS and FedEx for dropping their shipments with them. The nerve of delivery companies assuming that if they leave something at an office, and that something is signed for, the person behind the desk might actually ring and ensure the package is delivered promptly. I've seen the package closet down there. It's not too much of a burden to ring 30 tenants to tell them the good news each day. (Although for all I know, that's a week and a half of packages you've just now got round to forwarding the delivery stickers on.)
The mid level supervisor didn't bother to return my phone call. So if you think it's just this building's management, you're sorely mistaken.
So I wrote the CEO. Did he respond' No. So you know that it's rancid management throughout. ANY JBG corporation will simply put a hand out for the rent every month (whether their computer system is down or no, by the way. Oh, there's a fee for online payment, too.) while totally ignoring their end of the bargain - keeping your quality of life intact.
So when I received my second package of rotten steak today (this time from my inlaws since I told my Father not to bother as it would rot in the office) I simply phoned my husband to tell his parents not to bother sending us perishable gifts.
To recap:
This used to be a cheaper place to live while still retaining a lot of bang for the buck, but now with an assortment of fees added to your monthly rent, it is now overpriced for what it offers. You can get nicer finishes for a similar monthly rent. New fees ought to equal better service or new amenities, but this isn't so.
This used to be a nice place to live, but now with the other tenants that have the sense to move gone, I'm stuck with a pig sty of a trash room. I look around when I walk in from the parking lot at night now. If you don't mind a college dorm, this might still be a viable option.
The location is still somewhat nice, and there are new buildings going up not far from here. The bussing makes it a convenient ride to the metro, but one can probably get a place closer to the orange, yellow, or blue line for a competitive rent.
There are no more bells and whistles at this apartment complex. It's no frills at mid level to luxury prices. Not worth it!

How do you feel now that they have begun to double charge us for utilities? Our utilities have always been included within the rent we pay, but now (with no notice of such discussions) they are going to charge us some fictitious monthly fee through a third party company for utilities. Oh and in their own words the monthly bill will "be subject to change and fluctuation." The former manager Solomon quit over this issue.
I'm moving out for sure and will be telling any prospective renters I see to go elsewhere. I've been here for 4 years, but am not staying after this latest incident.
