You can not beat the price, especially all utilities included. Most of the neighbors are very nice, it is like a community in itself. The staff (maintenance and office) are very nice and helpful.
Problems include terribly creaky floors, the walls and doors have been painted over so many times that peeling tends to be an issue and most interior doors and cupboards do not close. The laundry room is over crowded and I hate to think how much money I have lost by unknowingly using out of order washers and dryers.
Only one window a/c unit in the summer and steam heat in the winter make for uncomfortable seasons. No real modern conveniences; i.e. garbage disposals, dishwashers, cupboard space, properly working fridge, properly working oven, etc.
No matter how clean you are, the bug problem in the summer brings to mind those mutated insect horror movies on the sci-fi channel.
Overall, it is a nice starter home but make sure you have a plan that includes moving out within 2 years. If you stay any longer, you will go nuts or if you are married will end up divorced due to the constant gripping. I have resided at Fillmore for 8 years and I can assure you that my weekends would be much more enjoyable if I would just work up the energy and budget to move into a more functional residence. There is nothing like working a 60 hour week to then spend your weekend hand washing dishes while trying to avoid bumping your head on the cupboard door that will not close, apologizing to your guests about the fact that the bathroom door does not close and that the walls are peeling, watching all the groceries you just purchased rott on one side of the fridge and freeze on the other and then being told by management that there is nothing wrong with the appliance. Also, there is nothing quite like putting together a cake or casserole only to find for about the 50th time in 2 months that the oven is not working and your apt. is filled with gas fumes, maintence will promptly come in and perform a temporary solution that will last for about a week. (Mind you, they will be very polite and nice while performing the temporary solution.)
