I lived at Fillmore Garden for 3 years, and all of my friends were amazed that I had such a huge apartment for the price. The staff at Fillmore Gardens also displayed some of the best customer service I have ever encountered.

The pluses:

The price is incredibly cheap and includes all utilities. My rent increased only $55 over 3 years (from $950 in 2006).

The apartment is well-heated and comes with one window air conditioner. I found it necessary to operate a second AC for a yearly fee of $200.

The location is convenient to everything. It is less than a 10-minute bus ride to the Pentagon, and buses run at least every 5 minutes during rush hour. There are also buses to Pentagon City, Ballston, and downtown.

This is the quietest place I have ever lived. I never heard my neighbors. I was lucky to have a top-floor apartment at the end of the building, so other apartments might be less quiet.

The leasing office staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful, and maintenance is prompt. Most staff lives in the apartments, so after-hours emergency maintenance is fast. The apartment grounds are attractive and well-maintained.

The lease goes month-to-month after the first year.

The minuses:

The apartments are well-maintained with fresh paint and some new appliances, but they are 60 years old and beginning to show their age. Although there is no visible mold, my apartment initially had a funny smell which made me sneeze frequently. A small air purifier solved the problem.

I had periodic problems with both house centipedes and silverfish. The leasing office will send the exterminator up to once a week at your request, and it seems to be safe and effective. I requested the exterminator every 3-6 months, whenever I began to see insects again.

There is plenty of parking for residents and their guests, but not all apartment buildings are right next to the parking lots. Only about 1 in 10 apartment buildings has a laundry room, so most people have to walk outside to do laundry.

In my opinion, the pluses outweigh the minuses. You cannot beat the price for this location.

I'm moving there in december but the rate for me is $985, when did they raise the rate from $950? Also, do you ever have a problem with the temperature of your apartment, either too hot because of only one window unit, or too cold because of the heating system?
