A great experience for a year and a half

Wow, looking at some of the other reviews written it almost seems like I've lived in a different complex than some of the other reviewers. I came to Fort Strong in April 2007 and will be moving out at the end of December. I will be the first to admit this is not luxury living. But with some of the best rates in Arlington, with ample space, and an excellent location, I think this is one of the best complexes I've lived in. Everyone has different experiences but I will try to write a balanced review based on mine.

For the pros, as I mentioned already, price, location and space all come out on top of the list. My single bedroom is 700 square feet, the price is at least $200 cheaper than the next cheapest place I could find, and I'm a 10 minute walk from Clarendon/Courthouse. Management has always been very gracious to me. Anytime I had a problem they were very quick to fix it (within 2 days max, usually same day) and every time I would see the management they always knew my name and were very friendly. It isn't often you get your landlords waving to you when they see you outside. Parking is a non-issue, I have always found space no matter what time I get home. Parking passes are free, another perk because many other places I checked with charged for them or didn't even allow guests for an extended period of time. Again, being very kind and friendly, management offered to slip a parking pass under my door several times when I knew I wouldn't be home before office hours were over.

For the cons, well, as I mentioned this is budget apartment living. If you require a dishwasher, your own washer/dryer (they typically have one per building), and the ability to control your own heat, this place is not for you. If you're a pretty laid-back guy like I am though, and don't require a lot of amenities, then this is a great place. I did have a cockroach issue last year for about a week after some not so cleanly neighbors of mine moved out. However, management was very prompt (same day) about spraying and after a week they went away and I haven't seen them in the year and a half since. The wiring inside the apartment is old, so there aren't quite as many outlets/cable jacks as you might have in a newer building. The hardwood floors creak and I can hear my neighbors walking around upstairs occasionally. The hallways are loud and every time someone slams a door shut and I'm in my living room I can hear it.

Overall I hope this review helps anyone looking at Fort Strong. Even though there are a number of cons I listed, I've lived in 5 other apartment complexes and the noise and cockroach issues aren't uncommon. Those are things that can (and often do) happen when you get people living on top of each other. And as I said, if you're looking for primo amenities, this isn't the place for you. However, if you're looking for a place that offers everything you could need on a day to day basis with extremely friendly and helpful management, that's in an excellent location, and easily one of the best deals in Arlington, you should look no further. I definitely plan to recommend living here to my friends if any of them should need to find an apartment near Clarendon/Courthouse.
