A Good Deal in a Great Location

The location's excellent. Less than 5mins to Georgetown (the rest of DC is a different story, due to M St). About a 5-10minute walk to Courthouse Metro on the orange line and the best of downtown Arlington, and it's a walk through a picturesque neighborhood, nothing unsavory. Also, you're right by 66 (I'm on the highway within 2mins from when I leave the parking lot).
These low-priced apartments avoid some of the pitfalls seen in similar communities:
-I haven't had a roach problem. I spotted a huge one in the hall and killed it, and that's all I've seen. We do, however, have all sorts of other strange bugs (a type of cricket I'd never seen before, for one), but they're a minor nuisance at best and you have to look to find them.
-Washer and driers work. Not cheap, but good.
-Neighbors aren't seedy: This is remarkable because the community over has a radically different composition. Hard to believe they have the same prices.
-Balcony! Very utilitarian (concrete with steel railing), but it gets the job done and is a good place to relax.
-Noise: All of my walls except the exterior wall are solid concrete (painted, of course). The only noise that leaks is through the poorly insulated windows, so you can hear crickets in the summer, etc. But never hear my neighbors when indoors.
I do, however, have a couple complaints:
-Parking is more than sufficient, but you'll have to re-train yourself to not park in the lines or else you'll dent your ride. I drive a compact car and when parked perfectly have about 3-5" of clearance on each side.
-Slope to parking: Very steep, and I'm worried about being able to get out (it's uphill) come wintertime if we have any sort of weather.
-Ugly blue halls make the place seem dingier than it is.
-Insulation: You have to become tolerant to various temperatures to stay compfortable unless you don't mind an astronomical electric bill.
Overall, if you're not picky and just want a a place to live, you'll do fine. Besides the balcony, you have no amenities, but when you consider that management's cool, the price is low, and you won't have roaches, it's a good deal. I'm surprised I pay as little I do for what I get.
