I lived in the Normandy/London apartments for 2 years. The views were decent and the location was amazing, but the buildings are old, overpriced, full of mice and receive minimal maintenance due to the impending demolition (management says possibly around 2009.) For the last year, there has been a big mouse problem. I can only speak for the London building, but I have heard rumors that they are in the Normandy building as well. Maintenance came to my apartment three times to put up traps and sent an exterminator to no avail. It was kinda creepy seeing them them scurry across my living room floor and seeing the holes they ate through my cereal boxes. It appears that money is not being put into the building except to patch things when they break.

The elevators seemed to break down on a regular basis (although they were always fixed within a day). The windows were old, thin and let in too much noise. My bathroom ceiling sprung two leaks around the light fixture, and the pipes going to my bedroom raditator slowly leaked under the floor and by the time I realized it, the carpeting and subflooring were full of mold. It took two weeks to get it fixed while I was sleeping in the living room. Apparently this is a common problem. The washer on my floor sometimes wouldn't drain. When I left, there seemed to be no plans to replace the machines or windows (or even send window washers to clean them), much less, permanently fix the heating/cooling and hot water systems (another drama). And the rent kept rising. When I moved in my rent was 1,300 a month, but considering the conditions here, managment got way too greedy. When it was time to renew this year, they wanted 1,600 plus parking and a utility fee and an "amenity fee." I found an apartment up the street, brand new with my own washer and dryer, equal distance to the metro and the same size for fifty dollars more, and most importantly, I don't have to worry about flooding or being evicted for redevelopment.
