On Saturday night, January 22nd, 2005, the Arlington, Virginia Fire department and Police department answered an alarming call about carbon monoxide poison gases in a Charles Smith-Archstone apartment on South 5th Street, Arlington, Virginia. The residence were experiencing symptoms like headaches, dizziness and vomiting.
The Carbon monoxide detector in the apartment building had sounded an alarm which indicated unacceptable levels of carbon monoxide were in the air. The residence had to be removed from the build in 0 degrees weather, and housed in the Fire department.
Charles E. Smith - Archstone buildings have Boiler systems in them. The buildings are poorly maintained and the heating unites are constantly breaking thus omitting fumes. This time residence almost lost their lives. Smith Archstone uses boilers so the residence do not have to pay for their heat and air. Smith also cannot afford to keep the boilers maintained so they have built the LOFTS.
The LOFTS are individual, cheaply constructed units starting at 1400 for a single. The residence pays for ALL utilities. Parking is outside and the neighborhood is noisy and somewhat scary.
The Parc Vista is adjacent to the LOFTS. It is a White Elephant which, of course, uses a BER system as well. The hallways always smell of fumes. We are moving to a safer environment. THINK BEFORE RENTING AT ANY CHARLES E. SMITH/ARCHSTONE COMMUNITY.

From: SouthNWest- Date: 06/26/2006 Oh My, you live in a trap!! Come over to Crystal Towers on So EADS and 15th. Even though you read some people's negatives about CT. we are living in a much better place. Over all, our 4 elev. work very fast and all go to the garage, the lobby and click cafe are constantly cleaned as well as the elevators and hall carpets. Our apt is beautiful, 2 BR, 2 baths all new and the kitchen sparkles with new tiles, sink appliances and all work... new carpet and a 20'x7' balcony. Yes, we too have the fire engines..going to help someone in need......
