I am moving out of this building by the end of the month, because this has been the worst rental experience I have ever encountered.

2 years ago, the property was staffed by a friendly, competent group. Sure, things would go wrong but they were friendly and prompt. However, within the past 12-18 months, the property management have turned this place into a living hell.

In short, WRIT (the management company) ran off the existing staff in its entirety. As a result, they staffed the front office with a bunch of idiotic temp workers who know nothing of the rules of the building. They just make stuff up as they go along, and if you ask someone a question on monday and the same question on tuesday, you will get two different and incorrect answers.

One year ago, the pipes within the wall of our bathroom burst, and completely soaked our bedroom floor and closet. At least the water was working that day, so I should be thankful for that. Once a month, your water WILL be shut off for a day.

The worst was last fall (2004), the pilot light within our gas stove failed and it took over 3 months for them to fix the problem. Every day I came home from work to find my kitchen filled with natural gas. It was only after I reached the point of calling 911 every day when I got home did the management get the idea.

The garbage disposal switch arcs electricity on occasion. And our air conditioning is a complete piece of garbage.

Let me tell you about the construction. They have been 'renovating' our building for the past 6 months. By renovating, I mean: painted the doors lime green and lay down some marble tile. They took one elevator out of service (which would always be broken over the weekend) so we've had to live with that hassle for a prolonged period of time. They removed the exercise room (which consisted of a few bikes and treadmills - one bike's seat had become so badly rusted from sweat, it could be no longer adjusted for various heights). When I confronted them about possibly reducing the rent since we no longer had any amenities whatsoever i.e. work out rooms - the manager told me to 'walk more'.

Lastly, when I moved out last weekend, they towed my brothers car from the lot. They instituted a bullcrap policy that each resident is allowed only one visitor parking spot. This is despite the fact that more than half the lot is vacant, due to the fact that so many other residents decided to leave this place. I could only obtain one pass for my two guests, and the car without the pass was promptly towed at 6:01. Hopefully you aren't planning on having anyone visit you here - but if you were like us, you'd be too embarrassed to admit to your friends you actually live in this dilapidated building that more closely resembled the type of structure that you would find in a war zone than a 'luxury apartment building."
