Live here only if you're desperate...

I?ve lived in Parkland Gardens for a little over a year. It?s my first place of my own, after living with roommates for four years, so I was willing to do without some luxuries when I agreed to live here.

Bad Points:
1. Bugs ? many bugs. There is no doorman for any of the apartments, and bugs just walk right into all of the apartments. I
2. Mold: In my building, there was a huge mold infestation. It got into all of the walls because of a leaky roof. A neighbor of mine had a $600 dry-cleaning bill, which she had to pay for herself because management refused to accept responsibility.
3. Water: The water runs from scalding to ice cold, within minutes. Taking a shower is an exercise in flexibility. I think this is cause by?..
4. Overcrowding: While there are some single professionals, there are just as many apartments populated with families of four, five or six people. The apartments are designed for one or two people, and the massive overcrowding causes many problems, including insect infestations and water problems. People have complained to management, but Abdul and Christine refuse to do anything about it.

Good Points:
1. It?s cheap and all utilities are included.
2. They raise your rent once a year, and it?s negligible. My rent went up less than 1 percent. You are also not required to sign another lease, after your first year is up, you can just go month-to-month with no penalties.

As much as I?m reminded how awful this place is every time I take a shower, I?m going to stay until I can afford to buy. It?s too bad really, because the apartment is quite charming. Most times however, it feels like you?re living in a slum. You just have to feel bad for the kids that are forced to grow up here, with five other adults living in the same room.
