CRAZY INCREASES, POOR SERVICE, CRUMBLING INFRASTRUCTURE

I can't wait to move out of this rundown building.
First, the cost to live here has skyrocketed: RENT has increased on average about 13% over each of the last 2 years. OUTSIDE PARKING has increased 150% just last week!!!!
Second, safety sucks. Cars get broken into on an almost daily basis. Just last week, a car parked next to mine had its rims (wheels) stolen! When I got to my car to go to work, the car next to mine was sitting on its break pads, without any wheels. Its gotten to the point where management has put up flyers warning residents about the "smash and grab" problem. NOTE TO MANAGEMENT: STOP WARNING ME ABOUT CRIME AND START FIRING THE "COURTESY PATROL" GUYS WHO DO NOTHING BUT TALK ON THEIR CELLPHONES, WATCH DVDs, PLAY PLAYSTATION PORTABLE OR CHILL WITH THE FRONT-DOOR GUY.
Third, this place is nasty. I catch mice in my apartment on a weekly - yes - weekly basis. One of the maintenance employees has told me that management is aware of the problem but is unwilling to poison all the mice in the walls, because their decomposing bodies would smell too much. So, you have to put up with the infestation - forever.
Lastly, the building is in great disrepair. Since I've moved in, I have suffered the same leak in the same pipe in my bathroom. Instead of replacing the pipe, management comes in once every 6 months to fix the plaster. This reflects their general attitude: they only address cosmetic problems, leaving underlying causes untouched.
As a whole, this place has become a dump. It isn't worth living here anymore - not for the greatly increased price.

Agree with everything this poster said times 10! I've lived in this building for 6 years, and it has so gone downhill in the past year or two. I have the same leaking pipe issue in my bathroom - when I asked them to repair it, they did nothing about the pipe and only painted over the damage -- which after about 2 weeks reappeared! Oh, and as for the increases - try a $250 increase which I just got notice of yesterday. I called the General Manager to complain - and still have not heard back. This is insanity - I'm looking for an apartment right now and getting out of this place just as soon as I can!

i am leaving river house this month . they have increased the rent to 5% parking 150% $120 for utlitties.
It is all because they want the tenants to leave the apartment so that they can convert those flats to corporate flats( fully furnished) and have huge profits

I agree also...In Jan 08 they'll be charging us seperately, in addition to out rent, $100 for utilities we're currently getting for free. I'm unable to sign a 1 year lease for the upcoming year and was notified that with the $250 rent increase, the $130 utility charge and $25 parking fee I'll be paying an additional $400 more than I'm currently paying for the same space and services. What a freakin joke. All this to find roaches in my apt every 3 months or so. I'm leaving ASAP.

UTILITIES? I HAVEN'T HEARD OF CHARGES FOR UTILITIES YET... WHEN DID YOU GET THE NOTICE? HOW? IF THIS IS TRUE, THE TENANTS SHOULD GET TOGETHER AND TRY TO SUE THESE BASTARDS.

Most annoying with being required to pay these utilities now is the $10.20 monthly "administrative charge" on top of paying those fees, plus a $15 account setup fee. Adding insult to injury...
I've been living here for nearly nine years, month-to-month for the longest time. I was disappointed also to find out that I am now required to sign a one-year lease to get a "normal" increase (besides now needing to pay for utilities), or will have to pay $150 extra per month if I wish to continue staying month-to-month. I don't know what I will be doing now, I'm very tempted to move elsewhere.

I totally agree. I've lived there for over 5 years. Used to be a great place. Then about a year or two ago, different corporate Nazis took over and now its screw the tenants including some who have lived there for 40 years or more. Its pure capitalistic greed and it makes me sick. Parking used to be free--now its $25 a month. Utilities used to be free. Now hundreds a month. Is there a way we can get the Washington Post to investigate how they are gouging the elderly to feed their Corporate bank accounts?!

Absolutely agree - moved in a year ago and it was great, then recently we've heard about all the increases....
And let me figure out this math - they've had three break-ins last month and they are increasing the parking fees. Does this mean we'll have more break-ins? Look at the d-bags doing security...I would place money on the fact that they are in cahoots with the bad guys, like 'I'll be working this shift, so you'll be okay to break into these cars.'
Fire alarms are triggered on a regular basis, always false alarms and they always happen at 1100pm when you are trying to get to sleep. Heavy smell of fish heads or whatever people are cooking in their apartments.
What a joke. What a difference a year makes....

This post is absolutely right on. I've been living here for 2 years and it's not worth the price they're charging. I'm moving out by end of this month and good luck to the rest of the tenants. The reason why they're charging outrageous utilities (plus monthly administrative fees) is that they've got a new "Conservation Policy". I get the point, the new management wants to get rid of all the tenants so they can rebuild the place. Well, point taken. We're all moving out in droves.
