Under the previous owners River House was great, but since the new management took over there have been maintenance issues that go unattended and my rent has gone up 20%.

What's too bad about this whole situation with the new management (Vornado, the commerical arm of Charles E. Smith) is that the INSANE increases in monthly costs (wild rent increases and the introduction of utility bills, even though individual units are not metered for energy usage) is that it only affects people whose leases renewed after 1/1/08. This means that right now (still January 08) MOST people are not aware of what's in store for them, and react with disbelief, dismissal and disinterest when told about this by the residents who have already been affected. If you are considering moving here based on the recommendation of someone who has NOT YET received new paperwork in the 2008 calendar year, THINK AGAIN!!! The "new business philosophy" (which is to squeeze every penny out of residents through HIGH rent, generic utility billing, and fees for lots of things that were always free) WILL APPLY TO YOU even if your lucky friend has not yet gotten the bad news.

No one is thinking of moving in. Vornado is going to tear these buildings down and put up hotel/retail soon. They also bought tons of land nearby, and have a plan with the county to build the Arlington County Convention Center. Guess what, they don't care if you move out. It's known as "constructive eviction." And yes, Arlington County is going to give them the permits they want to toss 1600 working/middle class households onto the street.
