Can't wait to get out....

I have not lived within the community for as long as my fellow raters, however it's been long enough. When I first got here, the management was awesome and the maintenance was the best I've experienced. The rent was reasonable for the fantastic neighborhood and the building was rather quiet for a high-rise. However, since the turn of management has swooped in, I can't find 1 reason not to get out....fast! The employees are rude, not many speak English clearly, and the price jump is ridiculous. I spend my night time trying to drown out the loud college-like atmosphere from the apartments above. As I have a rather independent job, I work from home for approximately 3 to 4 hours each day. For the past 3 weeks, I have been forced out of my own apartment to sit at a Starbucks in order to complete my work and actually be able to speak over the telephone. Everyday from 9am to approximately 3-4pm it sounded as if a jackhammer was literally in my bedroom - and it was consistent. When asked, the management had no idea when the construction was going to end, or that it was even happening to begin with. I knew it was time to leave, when I came home at 4pm one afternoon to find my door wide-open and a maintenance worker in my bathroom messing with tub. Red Flag: I had NEVER called maintenance for ANY reason and not one person attempted to notify me that someone was coming into my apartment for a leak reported downstairs. Case in point: spending 45 minutes searching the hallways for my cat before cleaning the muddy shoe prints off my bathroom carpet was not my idea of relaxing after an office meeting. I will be taking my security deposit and running at the end of the month.

This really scares me. I've actually thought on two occasions in the past few months that someone has come into my unit without telling me. I asked the management office on both occasions and they denied it. My cat was skittish when I came in, and bundles I'd left by the door weren't in the same spot. I thought I was going crazy. Maybe your post explains what happened - management coming in with no warning. This would not surprise me. The last two maintenance requests I've placed have resulted in my having to clean up after the workers left. This NEVER happened in all the years that Cafritz managed River House. This only started happening after Charles E. Smith/Vornado bought the property and Kettler came in as the management company.
Unfortunately, you are correct about the rude staff. In my building the management staff (a holdover from Cafritz who was hired by Kettler) makes no secret of her distaste for her job and for the residents. She openly states that all she cares about is her upcoming retirement. Isn't that great 'customer service' in exchange for the EXCESSIVE rent increases we're all getting?
If you're considering living here - don't. It used to be great. It's not anymore.
