GET OUT NOW!

Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2008
My husband and I moved into this apartment building in 2005. My husband loved the area and it was a nice building that was a great deal back then for the area. Back then it was really hard to get an apartment at River House. The day we came to look they just happened to have a 1 bedroom come available and as we were filling out the paperwork someone called on it, so it was well sought out. Now there are empty apartments everywhere. When we moved in the management was great, the staff was great, it was clean, and a friendly atmoshphere. We also did not have to pay for parking or utilities. Over the 3 years, we started getting charged for parking, the rent went up every year, and now with the new management (which sucks) we have to pay for our pets and utilities. The other thing that was nice is after living at River House for a year, you automatically went month-to-month rent. This was nice because you could give 30 days notice and leave your apartment with no fees or anything. With the new management you now have to sign another year lease if you want to stay. You can go month to month if you want to pay a lot more. The rent here is so high for the age of the building. Nothing has gotten better while we have lived here and yet they wanted to charge even more. We were looking at a $400 increase with the utilities, pets, and rent increase. That would cost us more than to move into a brand new "luxury" apartment that have been built in the Pentagon City/Crystal City area. Not to mention, the new management fired all of the maintenance staff that used to work here and have hired a company with people that don't even speak English. There was a time that our trash wasn't picked up for 5 days. The trash room started to smell really bad and our apartment is across the hall from it. Finally I went to the front desk and said something. Nothing was done! I then went into the management office and said something needed to be done NOW. They tried to find the new cleaning people they had hired and they couldn't. They didn't even have a phone number to reach the people. They had no way to contact them. What a bunch of crap! I would not recommend this place at all!!! It is way overpriced for the age of the building, the staff, and the apartments. The only plus is the Pentagon City ammenities. I'm going to miss Pentagon City and one lady that still works at the front desk. It's not worth it to live here for that. Please think twice before moving in here!!!!!!
