When I first moved in River House was a great value - not cheap but you got what you paid for! My rent was 1100 - including utility and free parking on the grounds (not the garage which was only 60- per month) the laundry was downstiars you paid to use the machines - but clean and at market value- for a large one bedroom - rent increases over the next 5 years were reasonable - for Arlington area. Things broke - but they got fixed - about half the maintenance staff was friendly (not bad) overall it was a good experience - if forgot your key the desk helped you out - no fee. They allowed cats at reasonable one time fee. They were always cleaning the building - the pool was nice the gym decent, etc. Then they sold the building and got different management. Rent became 1750 - per month not including utlilities, which pro rated for two people living in a one bedroom came to 250 - 300 per month more - SO lets assume 2000 per month - Oh you can have a pet - but it's substantially more per pet cost and a monthly fee - parking on the outdoor lots costs now - security used to be good out there for free - not anymore - break-ins, theft, etc. Good reception staff got fired - excellent maintenance and custodial staff got fired, .... fees for lock out of apartments. You figure this out - it's 900 more dollars a month for the same apartment - worse service, roaches, and attitude. -- oh by the way Arlington County says they consider the spread utilities cost increase to be unethical but there is nothing they can do about it. Oh - but you can have a dog now!!! - I moved got a dog pay less in rent and don't pay extra fees for living in the same building.

Where are you living now? I'm having a really hard time finding an affordable apartment that allows larger dogs.
