We're in a penthouse, which has its own AC, Washer/Dryer floor to ceiling windows, wood-burning fireplace and balcony overlooking Rosslyn. Admittedly, all the apartments are not this nice, but it depends on the owner. Look before renting. The walls are thick plaster, it is very quiet. And we like the multicultural, family friendly atmosphere. We walk over the Key bridge to Georgetown in about 7 minutes and to the metro in under 5 minutes. We ride our bikes from the admittedly over-crowded bike room to the trails along the Potomac in under 5 minutes. Parking for guests is expensive but we park in a garage in the building. Our rent covers parking, all utilities except phone and cable, and is far less than what we'd expect to pay for the same quality elsewhere in dc near a good neighborhood and metro. We get regular visits from the building exterminator and have seen no roaches at all. The front desk recieves packages for us and is friendly and the onsite market is great in a pinch. wholefoods and safeway are a short drive up Wilson blvd. We feel safe and secure without feeling like we live in a fortress. The brand new gym has pool tables, a theatre and a sauna. The pool is large, has a hot tub and sits within view of DC's monuments. Very funny!! Ever wonder why it's the best deal in DC? 1. It's the best deal in DC if you don't mind bed bugs, roaches, or mice for roommates. They don't pay rent, but as long as you are cool living with bugs and rodents then go for it!! 2. Ms. Br*** (AKA Eva Braun) the unqualified "manager" does very little to nothing when responding to any issues that come up. So yeah, River Place East could possibly be THE best deal in DC if you are willing to put up with the above (AND a lot more that I am not even going to go into).
